Meets in October Thirty-five ladies were present for the meeting at Ebenezer United Church on October 11 at 7:30 p.m. in the C.E. Hall which had been gaily decorated for Thanksgiving. Greta Down opened with a very appropriate Thanksgiving Prayer by Helen Steiner Rice. Margaret Down read the theme verse '...And what doth the Lord require require of thee ...', reading from the King James Version of the Bible which had been given in memory of Olive and Ted Rivett. This was the verse chosen by Ebenezer Ladies imtùtf MwUaye Berean Class to open each Sunday School Class and monthly meeting. With Eileen Down at the piano, we sang "Walls that divide are broken broken down" from Hymns for a Gospel People. Margaret introduced Michelle Down, daughter of Helen and Grant Down and granddaughter of Marie and Allan Down. Michelle, now in her third year at Emmanuel College, spent her five summer months in Tanzania. This was arranged by the United Church of Canada in partnership partnership with the Moravian Church in Western Tanzania. Under Michelle's direction, we observed a moment of silence in memory of Mrs. Kay Mackie, a much loved member of our congregation. This was followed by prayer. Michelle read an article she had been invited to write to express what the contact with the village people of Sikonge, Tanzania, had meant to her. Those folks over a period of five months had become her family. Michelle has a special gift of creating word pictures of her unique experience. With the help of slides and artifacts, we learned something of the daily living and social pattern of those devout devout Tanzanians. Of course, there were many questions which were very capably answered. Margaret expressed the thanks of the whole group. We realized that Michelle, with her studies, has a limited limited number of hours for such presentations presentations and we were very grateful to her for giving herself to us for an evening. Following prayer, the hymn "Spirit "Spirit of Gentleness" seemed a fitting closing. With Greta's guidance, we repeated repeated the "Irish Blessing". We were then invited to partake of the traditional Thanksgiving lunch of pumpkin pie and whipped cream. This was prepared prepared by Doreen Metcalf and Muriel Metcalf. Special thanks to Mr. and Mrs. German, Mr. and Mrs. Grubb, Craig German, Michelle German, Joanne Haynes and Deb and Randy Ellis for making the trip to be there for the wedding day. Prior to the wedding, a Jack and Jill was held for Mamie and Glenn. Bowmanville Church Distributes Clothing From Sèptember 18 to 22, the Community Services Department of the Bowmanville Seventh-Day Adventist Adventist Church, under the Direction of Mrs. Ruth Jackman, held their Annual Annual Clothing Distribution Program. During that period the Staff including including Colleen Morin, supplied 2,080 pieces of clothing, bedding, and miscellaneous household items to 74 local very needy families. This included three church made quilts which were supplied to burned out victims. Through the generosity of one of our church members, who paid for the costs of shipping by air, several families in Ghana will be receiving a liberal amount of clothing for their immediate needs. The remainder of the clothing that had been collected, was given to the Salvation Army in Oshawa. A year ago, November 6, 1993 at Trinity United Church, Bowmanville at 3:30 p.m. the Reverend Frank Lockhart united in marriage, Evangeline Evangeline Ruth Williams and John Frederick Frederick Thorpe. The organist was Mr. John Crookshank and the soloist Mrs. Allanah Coles. Parents of the bride are Mr. and Mrs. Robert B. Williams, Bowmanville Bowmanville and the groom's are Mr. and Mrs. Frederick D. Thorpe, Oakville. Given in marriage by her father, the bride was radiant in her Demetrius Demetrius formal gown of white satin. The sweetheart bodice of the gown was appliquée! with tiny seed pearls and multicoloured sequins, accented puff sleeves which narrowed into a V at the wrist. A long flowing train, with a V back was detailed with designs of pearls and sequins, with scalloped lace around the hem. The matching tiara headpiece held a mid-waist veil and she carried à beautiful bouquet of champagne roses. The matron of honour, Mrs. Patricia Patricia Dunford, sister of the bride, and bridesmaids Lee Anne Falls - cousin, Mitzi Snetsinger, Wendy Gomiak and Laurie D'Aoust, close friends, wore off the shoulder teal green velvet velvet dresses. They carried beautiful nosegays of peach roses. Miss Virginia Dunford, niece of the bride, was the flowergirl. Wearing Wearing a white satin gown donned with tiny white pearls, and a white and teal flowered crown she carried a small, pretty nosegay matching the bridesmaids'. Best man was Mr. David Thorpe, brother of the groom. The ushers were Tim Farrar, Chris Kiriakopou- los, Bruce Winch, and Steve South- well, close friends. Honourary attendant attendant Nathaniel Andres, nephew of the bride, escorted the flowergirl. The men wore black tuxedos with peach boutonnieres, and the groom wore a black tuxedo with a champagne boutonniere. boutonniere. The reception was held at the Lion's Centre. Out of town guests attended from Germany, Vancouver, Calgary, Halifax, Halifax, Montreal, Hamilton, Oakville, Toronto and surrounding areas.
