12 The Clarington Independent, Bowmanville, Saturday, October 22,1994 "Scouting with Skip" Hospital Welcomes Donation from Knights of Columbus For Colonies, Packs and Troops By Fred Ford, Skipper, First Hampton Sea Scouts Skip's Tip: Plan you work and work your plan cannot be demonstrated demonstrated more than when earning badges. It would be very difficult to earn all of the badges in the handbook handbook and new ones are being created all of the time. Yet everything that you do when camping or hiking or even playing can probably be applied applied to some requirement of a badge. Pick carefully the badges you want to earn. Document your achievements and let your scouter know what you have done. Mark it in your book and have them sign it. Scouts and Cubs often earn badges but never request . or receive them because they expect that their scouter somehow knows everything. Not so. Look after these things yourself and you too one day can wear your decorations proudly on your sash. Perhaps even the Chief Scout's Award. Skips Quiz: You have found a campsite. There is well drained ground, favourable exposure, safe surroundings, and a fuel supply. What essential element is missing. News from District: First Hamp-. ton Sea Scouts will be putting on a bridge building contest for Scouts tentatively for Saturday March 4, 1995. You will build a bridge out of 50 popsicle sticks that will be loaded down until it breaks. The current record in First Hampton's Troop is 84 pounds, held by Grant Hoskin. A former Scout who will not be there to protect his title. Your scouter will have the details soon. Colony, Pack, Troop Report: The 1st Enniskillen Scouts are ably led by Scouter Doug Webster. Doug has brought this troop from non-existent to 17 boys in just two years. He has 10 boys invested and 7 more ready to invest in two weeks. This will include ice fishing and they will be making their own tip ups. February will include a camp at Sa-: mac. There will also be a competition camp in May. If that isn't enough there will also be a week long canoe trip to Algonquin in July. They will be repeating their clean-up project for Seniors and they are planning snow shovel parties to help out neighbors and friends. They also do a fun project project called Scout Cars. The only criteria criteria for these motorized vehicles is that they must be able to be carried into the gym and there can be no flames or gasoline. They are also manufacturing wooden reindeer to be sold as a Christmas Fund-raiser for new equipment and travel expenses for their trip. John Bowler, Phil Harris Harris and Dale Noel act as leaders and helpers for this group. They sure sound like a fun bunch. Good work Doug.
