Kaitlin (left) and Adam Colville (middle) have been competing rroughout the off-season at the Prenovice Pairs level. They placed lird at Thornhill, first at Autumn Skate in Ottawa, and first at Okto- erfest in Woodbridge. Jillian Lemieux (right), was second in the lawartha Invitational Summer Skate in Junior Skate. All three mem- ers of the Orono Figure Skating Club arc shown above with their îcdals from summer competitions. We arc off to a great beginning to our 1994-95 season. Our enrollment has increased by 38%. One of the reasons for the increase is the adult skate program, which was initialed this year. It has really taken hold, as many non-skaters now skate across the ice and the more experienced experienced continue building skills. Registration for the January session session will be sometime in December. Watch for the notice! The seniors and intermediates arc busy perfecting their programs and preparing for upcoming tests. Good luck to the senior skaters entering the Cobourg Skate on November 5 and Sectionals in Oshawa on November 12. The Canskatc skaters have really shown their skills and enthusiasm. Fundraising, being a very important important part of our program, is coming along wonderfully! All parents and skaters please give yourselves a pat on the back. Your response to the fundraising fundraising programs is very good. Most of you arc very enthusiastic and willing to do your part in helping to keep our registration fees down. Without fundraising, the registration fees alone would not cover the club's operational costs. We arc expecting our Panda fundraising fundraising articles to arrive on November 15. Other fundraisers arc die Winning Edge Scratch tickets, 1995 calendars featuring world and Olympic champions, champions, food wrap, and a banquet on November November 26 (all volunteers welcome). After starting the LOSSA 'AAA' league with four consecutive wins, they now find themselves in desperate desperate need of at least one win, and possibly two, in order to qualify for the playoffs, Originally, the top six teams were to qualify for post-season play. But, along die way, that number was reduced to only four teams. With games remaining against Anderson (played yesterday), and at home Thursday to Central still remaining, remaining, the question of whether they will earn a spot in next week's playoff is still to be answered. Bowmanvillc did move one step closer on Monday afternoon on their home court, cruising to a 32-27 victory victory over Courticc Secondary School. Kaly Dcighan poured in 15 for Bowmanvillc, while Sommer West added 9. For Courticc, Trislt Goff was the top scorer, with nine points, and Rebecca Mills had seven. Bowmanvillc jumped out to an early lead and by halftime were ahead 19-10. They increased that margin lo 27-14 after three quarters. Though satisfied with the win, coaclt Gcordic Stover admitted that her team didn't play up to its capabilities. capabilities. "They seem to play at die level the other team is playing at," she said. "Against a good team, they will pass the ball around before they shoot. Today, whoever had die ball wanted to shoot." Bowmanville started the year stringing together 10 wins in a row, including league play and tournament. tournament. But near the midway point of the season, things began to change. Stover pointed to an ankle injury suffered by West as the cause for some of the losses. "She controls the game for us out there," praised Stover. "Her injury injury hurt us as a team in wins and losses, but individually it made some of the players stronger." Hopefully, the improved play of late will be enough to vault die team into one of the top four spots for the playoffs. Oh {fa,<wd Oft&tUty- THE GAS WORKS F.Y.
