Pat Pingle I am seeking the position of local councillor for Bowmanvillc, Ward Two, because I believe that it is important important to be involved in the community. community. I lived in Bowmanvillc for nearly nearly five years and I have been actively involved in the community. I am a teacher at Maple Grove Public School. For two years I was the Chairperson of the Family Violence Prevention Committee for Courtice area schools. 1 also chaired the Name Change Committee which was responsible responsible for soliciting public input to determine a new name for the "Town of Newcastle". I currently hold the position of vicc-Chairpcrson of the board for the Clarke Museum and Archives. Recently, I was involved involved with the Church Street Citizens Citizens Committee that was formed to voice concerns over changes that were in store for our street during reconstruction. reconstruction. In talking with residents and business business people of Bowmanvillc, I have found that planning for the future of our community is a major concern. There is a feeling among constituents that Clarington's population has been growing much faster than our industrial industrial and business sector. The Economic Economic Development Office has been working with members of the community community to attract investment to our area and I feel that their efforts must be fully supported. Our cultural and recreational facilities facilities have also lagged behind the pace of our fast growing municipality. The services provided by these groups arc essential to developing and maintaining maintaining a sense of community. Sincerely, David Wing Local Council Candidates -- Ward Three David Scott For me, the past three years as the Local Councillor for Ward 3 has been a satisfying experience, primarily because because I have seen that you can make a difference. Over the past three years there has been a change in govcmmcnt/busincss relations. It began with simple initiatives initiatives like an annual breakfast with local local business leaders and Council members, and progressed to the formation formation of an Economic Development Office dedicated to supporting our existing existing businesses and encouraging new business ventures. Bonnie Cunningham had to say. • The mill rate should be based on services not equalized across the municipality municipality • Fixed income residents can not afford to live in this municipality due to the high cost of local services • Fed up with Elected Representatives Representatives that never show their face in the communities except at election time • Busing in the rural areas is a real hornets nest • Newtonvilie residents expressed the long time need for some facilities and activities for the families in their Village • Many voters were angry that when they had a concern or problem they were unable to get anyone to even come out to look at it Most of the issues and concerns expressed by the residents in Ward 3 are just common sense, grass root problems. Bonnie will bring responsible responsible management to council to prevent costly delays and mistakes by working working to eliminate the complicated maze of overlapping policies, mandates mandates and jurisdictions. . Bonnie Cunningham has lived in Ward 3 for over 25 years and owns a successful business in Bowmanvillc. We must change the image of Clarington and assist people who want to bring commercial and industrial industrial development in order to create local jobs lessening the rate of idle hands, thereby increasing a more prosperous and safer local environment. environment. Ward 3 has been neglected long enough, wc deserve representation that is both accessible and visible, Ward 3 is tired of always finishing last. When I asked the constituents in Ward 3 what their concerns and issues issues were, here's some of what they IT'S TIME FOR A CHANGE Ward Ts contribution to Clarington has increased the most via residential development; yet our needs have been addressed the least. - to increase our business/industrial base - to ensure we get what we need - to address YOUR concerns On November 14, vote for LIBBY RACANSKY Regional Councillor-Ward 1 © Two successive years of zero tax increases and the amicable settlement of long standing legal disputes with some major businesses reinforced this view. There is still a lot more to do, but the direction has been set, and I want to see us continue on that course. In response to a 'Public Attitude Survey' sent to all Clarington residents residents for,the new draft Official Plan, 'more employment opportunities' was listed as the most important issue and 'preservation of the environment' was a close second. During the last tenn wc were severely challenged in this area by the Interim Waste Authority. Council worked closely with community community groups over a period of two years, and together were able to prevent prevent the location of a Durham-wide landfill on sites totally unsuitable for the puqiosc, Wc have also taken strong positions on the preservation of the Oak Ridges Moraine, the Ganaras- ka Watershed, and the Waterfront. The third most important issue listed listed in the survey was the preservation of agricultural land. People often forget forget that the agricultural industry is the largest employer in Ward 3 and the mainstay of our economy. The new Draft Official Plan recognizes the importance importance of protecting agricultural lands from unplanned urban sprawl. This plan will direct our development for the next 20 years. The continuing 'quality of life' in Ward 3 will depend to a large extent on our ability to properly manage growth, and to provide ncccssaty services services at reasonable cost. In particular, our youth and seniors need our support support if we are going to sustain healthy communities, For the past 23 years I have worked in the employee relations field in both the public and private sectors. This experience hits provided me with the skills to work with people and help mediate issues, It has also given me an appreciation of the importance of the 'bottom line' in getting things done. If l am re-elected, 1 will continue continue to 'get tilings (lone' for my constituents, constituents, David Scott Ltt For Leadership ELECT ARNOT WOTTEN REGIONAL COUNCILLOR WARD I For information or transportation, call: 905-263-2512 Ex] Authorlzod by C.F.O.
