Ha mmen Homes Remains Firs The double 'A' major bantam Toros, Toros, sponsored by Halminen Homes, continue to lead their league with 10 wins and two tics. Their latest wins were at the expense expense of Whitby and Pickering respectively. respectively. In Whitby on November 8, the Toros Toros built up a 5-2 lead, only to sec Whitby tie it 5-5 in the second period. But on the strength of a four-goal performance performance by Ryan Winning, the Toros won the game 7-5. Chris Steele, with two, and Ben Tonks also scored for Bowmanville. At Darlington on November 15, the Toros met up with the highly regarded regarded team from Pickering who had lost only once prior to this game, They were prepared for a win, and even went to the lengths of writing a victory speech in the local paper before before the puck was dropped. However, the final paragraph would read, "we came close, maybe next time." Leading 3-0 in the third period, Pickering began to coast and Bowmanville Bowmanville started an amazing comeback. comeback. Willi less than seven minutes to play, the Toros tied the game on goals from Chris Steele, Ryan Jackman, and Ryan Winning. Then, with only three seconds left on the clock, Chris Steele won the game with a hard slapshot from just inside the bluclinc, Inspired play by the Toros sent Pickering home 4-3 losers. Next home game is November 23 at Darlington Arena against Orillia. Goodyear Eagles Now 13-1 Bobcaygeon Bullets Latest Victims in 10-2 Win The Bowmanville Eagles extended their home ice winning streak ville's record to 13 wins and one loss. The victory improved Bowman- of Gary Adams and looks to get a shot away on goaltender Jeff Reid. by Brad Kelly Sunday night's Jr. C tilt featuring the Bowmanville Goodyear Eagles and Bobcaygeon Bullets was a classic classic example of why hockey games are three periods long. For two periods, the game between between the best team in the league (Bowmanville) and one of the worst (Bobcaygeon), was a relatively close, entertaining affair. That all changed in the third period. period. Bowmanville scored five unanswered unanswered goals in the final frame, on the way to a 10-2 rout of Bobcaygeon. Bobcaygeon. In three games between the two clubs this year, Bowmanville holds a 27-8 advantage in goals scored. The win was the thirteenth of the season for Bowmanville, and their seventh straight on home ice. The only blemish on an otherwise perfect perfect season is the 5-1 loss to Port Perry on October 30. A chance to increase their win total total came last night (Tuesday), when Bowmanville hosted the expansion Georgina Ice. Paul Gagne and Jason Mosicr each had a pair of goals to lead Bowmanville, who were ahead 2-1 after the first period, and 5-2 after the second. Dave Real, Chad Taylor, Curtis Hodgins, Darryl McArthur, Ryan Foster and Todd Cannings had one goal apiece. Somehow, Bobcaygeon were able to stay with Bowmanville for the first 30 minutes of the game, bailing by only a goal at 3-2 midway midway through the second period. Seven straight goals turned a close game into another lopsided win lorBommlle. Bobcaygeon even had a great chance to tie the game, or forge ahead, in the second period when Bowmanville ran into a scries of penalties. But Bobcaygeon squandered squandered the opportunity. Curtis Hodgins raced out of the penalty box after Bowmanville had been shorlhanded for close to six minutes, beating Bobcaygeon goal- tender Willi Vandcnoctlaar for a 4-2 Bowmanville lead. The Eagles would go on to score the next six goals of the game. After the tenth goal, on a bad an- sliot by Cannings with 3:30 left to go in the game, Vandcnoctlaar stared into the bench, begging his coaches to mercifully pull him from die game. They complied. The prettiest goal of the night belonged belonged to Foster, who made his first marker at this level of hockey one to remember. Breaking down the right side in the third period, Foster cut in front of the Bobcaygeon net, and in a move often demonstrated by lacrosse lacrosse players, swung his stick around behind his back, sliding the puck past a startled Vandcnoctlaar. Darryl Whibbs and Jason Telford were the Bobcaygeon marksmen to beat Bowmanville goaltender Jeff Reid on the night. Whibbs scored in the first period on a slapshot from the point, while Telford cut around the defence ;in the second period, shovelling the puck past Reid. THE SCOOP - In addition to his goal, Curtis Hodgins picked up four assists, and has moved into the team scoring lead with 29 points. That's one better than Gary Armstrong, Armstrong, who was absent from Sunday's Sunday's lineup with a groin injury. Also not dressed were Darrin Peters, Doug Wright, Steve Desmcdt and Scott Pollard... A playoff-type crowd watched the game, as free tickets were distributed to minor hockey teams. The promotion brought out a huge crowd, but for arena staff,' it turned the Recreation Complex into one giant daycare centre, as many'of the kids ran wild. 328 RITSON RD.
