Homeowners in the neighborhood neighborhood of large homes off Regional Road 57 will be putting up a Salvation Salvation Army drop box this month, along with their lights. They are hoping folks who come to appreciate appreciate the Christmas extravaganza will remember to bring a non- perishable food item for the less fortunate fortunate in their midst. "With the volume of traffic we get through here, I thought we could do something," says Karen McCauley, McCauley, of Andclwood Court, who came up with the idea of a food-drive. "I would estimate on a Saturday night at least a thousand cars drive by," she says. Tve looked out my window window and counted 25 cars crammed end-to-end. They crawl by all night in a steady stream." Homeowners along Regional Road 57 will be putting up a Salvation Army drop box. McCauley says that, for at least the past seven years, she and her neighbors have gone all out with their Christmas decor. It's a spectacle spectacle that draws folks from all across Durham and beyond. "They come in everydiing from stretch-limos to school buses. It's like a fantasy-land around here," McCauley says. She anticipates close to 60 homes will be participating in the lighting extravaganza extravaganza this December. She has no idea what sparked the exterior lighting craze in her neighborhood, neighborhood, except to say it's gorgeous. gorgeous. The food drive drop box will be located on Andlewood Court. It will be decorated and will bear the Salvation Salvation Army shield. Appropriate food items include spaghetti, powdered powdered milk, cereals and odicr non- perishable goods. Salvation Army personnel will collect donated items every morning, McCauley plans scoop out any donations that might freeze overnight. It will also be fitted widi a lock to prevent looting or vandalism, she adds. DBIA Shuttle Service Dec. 2nd Bowmanville's Christmas shoppers shoppers can leave their cars at home on Friday night, Dec. 2, and hop onto shutdc buses beginning at 6:00 p.m. The buses provided by the merchant merchant members of the Downtown Business Improvement Area Association, Association, will be covering Bowmanvillc in an effort to help gather people before before the Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony at 7:15 p.m. There will also be buses during the entire evening, evening, bringing local residents to the downtown core for some Christmas shopping expeditions. The buses, supplied by Charter- ways, will travel on three routes covering the north, west and cast ends of the town. At the north end, folks can hop on the bus along Freeland Avenue, Meams, Old Scugog and llie area north of the railroad tracks. The east end shuttle bus will travel along King Street to Simpson Avenue to Baseline to Liberty and northwards to King Street. The west end, bus will cover Aspen Aspen Springs, the subdivision off Martin Road and Waverlcy Rd. areas. areas. For more details, check the maps included in this issue. Drivers will pick up residents when flagged down as there aren't any designated bus stops along the routes.
