More Happenings From Around The Town NEW EXHIBITION AT VISUAL ARTS CENTRE - On Sunday, December 4th, Ian Kavanagh will be showing a collection of paintings at the Visual Arts Centre located off Simpson Ave., in Bowmanville. The opening is from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. The exhibition continues until December 16. Kavanagh's paintings include vibrant abstractions and fanciful still-life. Singing "Lumberjacks" Entertain at St. Stephen's Elementary School CONCERT AT CHRISTIAN HIGH SCHOOL - The Durham Christian High School Music Department will present its annual Christmas Concert beginning at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 15th, in the school auditorium. The choir, wind ensemble, jazz ensemble and other small groups will be performing a wide range of Christmas favorites. Tickets for this musical celebration are available from any student in the music department or by calling the school at 623-5940. All those who attend are asked to donate a non-perishable food item to the Salvation Army Food Bank. Travelling entertainers Gilbert Parent and Declan Murphy of "Les Bûcherons", (or, in English, the Lumbeijacks) were at St. Stephen's Elementary School recently, leading core French and French immersion immersion students from three Catholic schools in a lively sing-along. Les Bûcherons hail from Edmonton and are currently on a cross country tour to promote French-Canadian culture. CL0CA Receives Funds to Hire Youth CHRISTMAS TOY DRIVE - As a special Christinas giving effort, the DUCA Community Credit Union, 136 King St. E., Bowmanville, is urging citizens to join them to think about sharing during this special season. Non-perishable food items and toys may be dropped off at the local branch and all items will be kept in the community to be distributed by the Salvation Army.
