On Saturday, December 10, Aamco1 Aamco 1 started off what would become a long but rewarding day at Darlington Arena playing an 8:00 a.m. league game against Cutting Post. , Cutting Post scored first five minutes minutes into the first period, then added another early in the second period until until Aamco came to life, scoring five times. Cutting Post added one more to end the second period 5-3. Aamco added three more in the third, winning the game 8-3. Point getters were David David Corcoran (3g, 4a), Joshua Johnson (2g, 2a), Steve Reed (lg, la), Darren Kok (2g, 4a), Shawn Linnell (la), Joshua Cripps (la). The team headed to Grafton for their first tournament. They were back on the ice at noon, meeting Cobourg. Aamco lit up the scoreboard first on an unassisted goal by Jeff Lee. Less than a minute later, Joshua Cripps scored, unassisted. Cobourg answered with one of their own with four minutes left in the first. The rest of the game was all Aamco as they scored eight more to finish the game with a 10-1 victory, moving them to the 'A* Division. Scoring were Jeff Lee (2g), Joshua Cripps (4g), Darren Kok (2g, la), Joshua Johnston (lg, 2a), Tommy Jennings Jennings (lg), Matthew Crawford (2a), David Corcoran (la). Aamco hit the ice again at 3:00 p.m. in what would be a much tougher match up against Baltimore. Because of the set up of the tournament, Aam co would have to win this and the next game to make it to the 'A' finals. The first period supplied some exciting exciting end-to-end action with goalie Ryan Bruce making some outstanding saves to keep Baltimore off the score- board. Finally with only 1:17 remaining remaining in the second, Joshua Cripps scored, unassisted, to put Aamco up 1-0. In the third period both teams were playing hard to fight off elimination. Aamco scored again. Joshua Johnston put it home on a great passing play by Joshua Cripps and David Corcoran. With 1:23 left on the clock, Baltimore finally notched one to bring them one goal closer to overtime. The Baltimore Baltimore coach pulled his goalie when the puck was in Aamco's end, but Darren Kok lobbed a high shot down the ice that was headed right for the empty net. A Baltimore player tried in vain to reach it, but was just a little too late. Kok had put Aamco up 3-1. Baltimore scored with 26 seconds remaining, but it wasn't enough. The empty net goal had ensured Aamco at least one more game. Without even time to undress, Aamco was back on the ice at 5:00 p.m. to face Checkers of the BRHL. These two teams had met in the first league game of the year, with Aamco on the losing end and Checkers had remained undefeated ever since. The winner would move on to the 'A' finals. finals. David Corcoran scored first, assisted assisted by Steve Reed and Jeff Lee. Forty nine seconds later, Joshua Cripps scored on a great pass from Tommy Jennings. Even up two goals, Aamco knew they had to keep playing hard and stop Checkers at every turn. Checkers scored a short-handed goal halfway through the first, but less than a minute later, Jeff Lee scored, assisted by Joshua Johnston and Matthew Matthew Crawford to put them up by two goals before the first period ended. In the second, Joshua Cripps added two more to notch his second hat-trick of the day, with assists going to Darren Darren Kok, Tom Tester, Joshua Johnston, Johnston, and David Corcoran. Checkers added one more with 41 seconds left in the game. Aamco won 5-2 and a tired but ecstatic ecstatic team now had only an hour to kill before playing the 'A' Championship Championship game against Hooper's of the BRHL. Both teams made this a very exciting exciting and nerve-wracking game to watch. With no score until the end of the second, it was beginning to look like whoever could beat a hot goalie first was going to win. Aamco's chance came with 1:36 remaining in the second period when David Corcoran passed the puck to Jeff Lee who took a shot that hit the goalie, then picked up the rebound and passed it to Steve Reed, whose shot went up in the air, hit the Hooper's Hooper's goalie, and went ill. i Hooper's fought back hard in the third but Ryan Bruce stopped anything anything that managed to get through the defence. Hooper's pulled their goalie but couldn't capitalize on the advantage advantage and Aamco added an empty net goal scored by Joshua Johnston, assisted assisted by David Corcoran. Aamco were the 'A' Champions. After winning five games in one day the team was exhausted but happy. Aamco would like to congratulate Hooper's on a great game. After coach Les presented the team trophy to our sponsor, Tom Jennings, in the dressing room, everyone headed home in the worst storm of the year so far. Thankfully, everyone made it safe and sound. Aamco would like to wish everyone everyone a safe and happy holiday season.)
