Number two is exactly where the local club sits in the provincial Jr. C rankings. . As in previous years, I have taken die time to contact each of the six leagues throughout Ontario in an effort effort to compile a top ten ranking list for the 55 Jr. C teams in the province. province. In the first game, the Toros skated away with a 3-1 win over Wheatley. Chris Steele opened the scoring, assisted assisted by Darryl Wright and Ryan Winning. Wheatley tied the game, but Ryan Winning scored the game winner, winner, assisted by Niki DcFrcitas and Clayton Kohn. Ben Tonks scored the final goal, unassisted. Niki DcFrcitas, with a great two- way effort, was named MVP for this game. In the second game against Fort Eric, the Toros scored four unanswered unanswered goals for a 5-1 win. Chris Steele led the way with two goals and one assist, and was selected the game MVP. Other goal-scorers were Clayton Clayton Kohn and Ryan Jackman. Assists went to Steve Tabb and Ryan Jack- man with two each, and singles to Ryan Winning and Darryl Wright. The Toros easily won their third game 7-0 over St. Catharines. Chris Baumhauer played a solid game and his effort earned him the MVP for the game with two goals and one assist. Chris Paquette played a good defensive game. In the fourth game against Essex, the Toros scored early, but two quick goals by Essex erased the lead. The boys responded and blasted the net with five straight goals for a 7-2 win. Ian Robinson and Mike Leipsig teamed up on defence to blank the Essex Essex offensive game. The penalty filled game was called with eight minutes remaining. There were twelve, 10 minute and game misconduct misconduct penalties, and a total of 86 minutes in total to both teams. Goal scorers were Darryl Wright, Steve Tabb, Chris Steele, and Ian Robinson. Assists to Chris Paquette, Niki DeFreitas, Chris Steele, Ryan Winning, Ryan Jackman, Mike Leipsig, Leipsig, Ben Tonks and Steve Tabb. The final game against Etobicoke started off at a good pace, with action at both ends and Bowmanvillc getting the better scoring opportunities. Great goaltending by Etobicoke kept the game close. Etobicoke took advantage of their opportunities and jumped into a 2-0 lead. The game slowed considerably . as both teams showed fatigue in this ' three-day tournament. Both coaches were desperately looking for. fresh legs and short shifts from the players. It was the Toros that responded with two goals by Darryl Wright and one by Chris Steele for a 3-2 win. Chris set up both of Darryl's goals and was voted most valuable player for his team. Ryan Jackman also assisted on the goals. Ryan, after receiving a kiss from "Miss Fort Erie," accepted the championship championship banner for the team to round out the closing ceremonies. Next tournament is in Bowmanvillc. Bowmanvillc. Coach Sam is looking for a win to qualify for the Silver Stick in Port Huron at the end of January. McGregor's IDA Split Two Games On Saturday, December 10, McGregor IDA peewces suited up for a BRHL game against Rolph Novico. After the first period, Novico led 1-0. In the second period, Eric Arsenault Arsenault and Justin Newman broke in alone and Justin Newman scored in the top right comer to tie the game. Mike Shrives played another solid game between the pipes, but faced far too many shots. Final score: Novico 4, McGregor's 1. On Saturday, December 17, McGregor's played an exhibition game with Hooper's. In the first period, Justin Newman continued his scoring spree on a pass from James Griffin to put the IDA team up 1-0. In the second period, Scott West- lake feathered a pass on to Neil Degree Degree in front of the net and Neil fired in a marker to put IDA in front again. James Griffen poked in a rebound from Glen Ferguson and David Ben- ham to make it 3-1. Then, B.J. McKay made a perfect pass to David Bonham and David made it 4-1. In the third period, Eric Arsenault scored, with assists going to Brandon Buckley and Glen Ferguson. Final score: McGregor's 5, Hooper's 3. ' ' iQ The Kinsmen BRHL atom hockey team had not savored the sweet taste of victory during regular season play. All that was about to change when they travelled to Douro for the Douro Atom House League Tournament. Coach Mike McAllister changed his lineup to beef up the defence, and not only did they win a game, but they won all three games to capture the 'A' Championship. In the first game against Ennis- more, Daniel Richtler scored at the 4:55 mark to give Kinsmen the lead at 1-0. It was the first time this year that Kinsmen had ever held a lead. By the end of the first period, they had gained a 3-1 lead. In the second period, period, each team scored two goals, and Ennismore added a goal midway through the third period to close the game to 5-4. In the dying minutes, Scott Maxwell Maxwell made a game-saving stick save on a Ennismore breakaway to preserve preserve the win. Kinsmen goals were scored by Daniel Richtler with his first hat-trick of the year, and singles were by Justin Naklicki and John O'Connell. In the second game, against Keswick, Keswick, the defence took over. Goalie Jercd Williams had promised he would get a shutout and he combined with Scott Maxwell to get one as the Kinsmen won 2-0.
