Congratulations again to the Horticulture Society in their annual, festive noon luncheon, held Thursday, April 23, in Orono United Church Main Hall, approximately 120 folks sat down to a delicious hot and cold buffet buffet menu of roast turkey, ham, hot casseroles and salads galore. Plates of assorted sweets completed a tasty meal. Our faithful treasurer Flo Sharpe says this one went over well and really "came together"! Our next big event will be "Spring Flower Show", but everything everything is now two weeks ahead, so we may run into problems! Thursday evening was listed as "We Remember" in Oshawa hospital. A very large crowd of family and friends of departed loved ones from 1997 were remembered at a very lovely service, held in the cafeteria. When names were read out, all family members went to the front and put fresh carnations in a vase. There were dozens of cut flowers from "The Wallflower Florists". A special thank you to art students of O'Neil Collegiate for the beautiful butterfly art work. Thank you to all O.G.H. staff and service of remembrance co-ordinated by Palliative Care team, chaplaincy services and Hospice Durham. Congratulations and welcome to Orono's new Bank Manager, Jennifer Langlois who comes to Orono from Uxbridge! 4T Club Dinner The latest meeting was held in the Complex Hall Thursday, April 23 with 49 club members present for dinner. A beautiful roast beef dinner was catered by Arena Board and was much enjoyed by all! President Marion Tennant gave Easter Prayer. Following the short business period, entertainment entertainment was provided by the Logos Youth group of Orono United Church and also by Reverend Mervyn Russell. 50-50 draw winners were Klaas Schocnmakcr, John Beattie, Enid Tennant. Next dinner will be May 21st with special entertainment by "Country Four", well known local musicians. Congratulations arc extended to Donna, daughter daughter of Marion and Roy Tennant, who recently received the "Bravery Award" for rescuing the children from a house fire in Clarke Township. A LEARNING EXPERIENCE -- Bertha Barnes, a well-known Clarington gardener, shared her knowledge of African violets at a recent meeting of the Orono Horticultural Society. The meeting was held at the Orono Town Hall as part of the 100th anniversary celebrations taking place at the building this year. Newtonville Card Parly On Friday evening at Newtonville the thunder storm was rather violent, knocking some bricks off the Mall chimney and some televisions and micro-waves were affected. Nevertheless, sixty-seven card players arrived at the Hall.
