Page S The Claringlon/Courticc Independent, Bowmanvillc, Saturday, May 16,1998 Provincials Attract Gymnasts Gemini Gymnastics attended the 1998 Youth Provincial Championships for ages 9-12 this past weekend in Cambridge. Gemini came home with four more Provincial titles, which is a record for the Club. Gemini Gymnastics has produced a total of eight Provincial Champions for 1998. The next major competition will be the National Championships in Hamilton, May 25 - 31. Results from Cambridge were: Pre-Novice 1 Vanessa Jakym, 9, of Whitby and Renee Sparkes, 10, of Courticc, tied for the Provincial Champion Title in this division. They will share the title. Renee won the gold medal for her vault, placed 4th on the uneven bars, earned the bronze medal for her beam routine and took the silver medal for floor. Novice 3 Nicole MacDonald, 11, of Orono, had a great competition. competition. She is the Provincial Beam and Vault champion, took the bronze medal on uneven bars and placed 4th on Boor. She placed 16lh All Around and was able to bring home a gold medal for the Team Competition. Former National Team Member Speaks at Girls' Hockey Banquet The Clarington Girls' Hockey Association officially officially closed out their season on Friday, May 8, with an awards banquet that was held at Bowmanvillc High School. The guest speaker was former Canadian women's team member Angela James (pictured above). "If professional anglers like Henry and I could misinterpret some of the regulations and unknowingly unknowingly break the law, just imagine how many amateur amateur and hobby anglers are doing it every day," said Italo Labignan, co-host with Henry Waszczuk, of Canadian Sportfishing on TSN. "We want to make sure that doesn't happen." It also provides basic information on how to legally prepare the fish you catch for transporting or freezing and the definition definition of "catch limit." A Conservation Plus feature will be included in every program of the new season of shows beginning beginning this fali. Plans also call for an educational video; weekly fishing tips which will be supplied free to newspapers newspapers across Canada and a roadshow featuring displays displays and seminars designed for children. Beginning with the summer issue, a new, three-page Conservation Plus section will be incorporated incorporated into Canadian Sportfishing magazine. It will include tips and information information on regulations and conservation as well as a column that will answer questions from readers. "We were floored when the infractions were brought to our attention," said Waszczuk. "We thought we knew all the regulations. It's our responsibility to know them upside down and sideways and we're going to make sure our viewers and readers do too." The first by-law permitted Apartments-in-Houses in a single or semidetached semidetached dwelling unit in the urban areas provided the unit met the standards of the Ontario Fire and Building Codes. In addition, the by-law grandfathered existing Apartments-in-Houses under certain conditions. The second by-law passed by the Municipality required each homeowner to submit an application for the registration of existing Apartments-in-Houses by April 28,1998. Council at its May 11, 1998 meeting approved and passed an amendment to the Apartments-in-Houses by-law extending the deadline for the registration of all existing Apartments-in-Houses from April 28, 1998 to June 30,1998.
