This exhibition features photographs of both public and private gardens in Oshavva ranging from the 1880s to the 1950s. Whereas Victorian gardens were "stiff, formal and fussy", twentieth-century twentieth-century landscape designers encouraged Canadian gardeners gardeners to follow a more natural style: gardens should look like a landscape landscape painting, idealizing nature (but not formalizing it). Thomas Bouckley (1903-1988) had a keen interest in local history and collected photographs of Oshawa after receiving his father's collection.
