i The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanville, September 23, 1958 Pace 5 IN THE MOVIES -- Oshawa's Parkwood mansion, the Tyrone Mill, the Bowmanville Museum and the Bowmanville Zoo are some of local sites frequently used for movie, commercial and television locations. But, the Blue Circle quarry in Bowmanville should also be added to the list. The quarry has hosted about 17 different production companies during the last four years. The latest shoot was for a GM commercial. commercial. It took place on the weekend and we understand there may be more filming taking place there during the week. That would account for all the helicopters and special effects explosions at the quarry over the weekend. GOLFERS OUT-FOXED -- We hear from the talk at last Friday's hospital golf tournament that there's a fox on the Bowmanville golf course keeping an eye on the shots. Apparently, the animal has been known to pick up a few balls on the fairway and run away with them. Or is that just an excuse used by duffers when their shots disappear into the deep woods? It has even been claimed that there's a pile of golf balls in a ditch believed to be pul there by the fox. At least that's the story anyway? Reminds us of the ones about the snapping turtles in the ponds. HISTORY UNEARTHED -- Stephen Scatlcrty, of Regal Capital Planning, discovered what appears to be an old typing assignment and an 1844 Province of Canada half-penny during renovations at his building building at 24 King St. E. Both were found under a lath and plaster ceiling. Anybody with information on the history of the building is asked to call 623-1936. PHOTOGRAPHER IN BC -- Neil Newton, a well-known Clarington resident in the 1970s and gifted photographer, apparently has a photo shop and gallery in British Columbia these days. One of our readers, Iva Twist, noticed his shop in Chamainus, on Vancouver Island. Unfortunately, she wasn't there during regular business hours, so she didn't have a chance to drop in and say hello. She did, however, get a picture of his shop. •ration Work at St. John's Anglican , Church in Bowmanville has undergone some renovations renovations that should keep it in good repair for the next ' century. George Webster, chairman chairman of the Property Committee at St. John's, says the building, which was constructed in 1852, required stabilization of the : walls and roof. The installation of rods across the width of the sanctuary will keep the roof supported and prevent the walls from spreading. "We should be good for another 150 years," Mr. Webster said. He explained that the work resulted from an inspection which was required at all Anglican churches in the diocese of Toronto. "The things they found were not that serious, but they were something that ü>t. This would give each student a greater opportunity to get help in class from their teacher, protect the extracurricular programs (which Mr. O'Toole cannot cannot decide whether he wants teachers to do or not), and maintain the prep time that teachers are talking about, The only thing that it won't do is save the millions of dollars dollars that the Tories want to bleed out of the education system.
