NEWCASTLE FALL FESTIVAL -- Saturday, October 3. King Street will be closed off for a full day of free events organized by the Newcastle & District Chamber of Commerce. The day starts with the Knights of Columbus Pancake Breakfast and the Newcastle Lions Walk-A-Dog-athon, followed followed by an all-day craft sale in the Community Hall, the Annual BIA Bed Race, the Antique Car Show, and games and entertainment provided by a number of community clubs and groups. That is an increase of 60% in the last four months. We cater to chefs, engineers, adults with college diplomas, scholars with university degrees who can no longer find hope in a heartless society. They join with the prostitute, drug addict, alcoholic, homeless and mentally challenged street people and youth. We at the Gate bring hope where there is no hope. We give free lunches of sandwiches or donated food. All day there is coffee, tea, donuts and/or cookies to snack on. We give out free clothing. We offer help through a referral/crisis counsellor and a variety of programmes. We have a youth drop-in centre for the teens who come to us. Our teens range in age from 13-19 years of age. Many of these are single moms or mnaways due to abuse in the home. We need your help in order to help all our people who have been forsaken by humanity. Financially we are drowning. The upsweep of clients has created the additional cost of food, coffee and administration supplies. supplies. We need to pay our rent in order to keep a warm place in winter, a cool place in summer for people to come. We provide a safe environment and that is important to a street person because of all the broken promises, the hurts, the humiliation, others stealing from them - they just don't trust anyone. Items such as soup, towels, socks (new or used), tins of salmon, tuna, mayonnaise or items to make soup are important to us. As each one helps someone, then everyone wins!
