Your Back Pain is the Pits QUESTION: Telma, I have low back pain. When you treated my armpit, my back felt much better. How is this possible? The latissimus dorsi, i lats (or short, is both a back and shoulder muscle. This muscle is a common under- ; lying mechanical cause of low back pain. A trigger or tender point , is a taut palpable band or 1 knot in a muscle. The trig- ' ger point for the lat muscle . is In the side of the trunk ; about 2 hand, spans south , of the armpit. When this 1 muscle Is knotted the pain 1 Is felt in the low back. What happens Is the knot In the lats side tilts the trunk towards the tight side. For example If you have a knot In your right lat muscle your trunk will side bend to the right. This will make your right shoulder appeanower than your left. On testing, side bending to the left or opposite side, Is restricted. Either side bend will bring on your low back pain, Patients often report that lifting and working with their arms overhead or In front of them Is the most painful for their back, Tills Is because the lat starts In the low back, runs up Iho lower *4 part of the shoulder blade, comes around the armpit and ends at the upper arm. Because the knot or trigger point is in the armpit, on the side of the trunk, it Is often missed. Mechanically speaking the lats rule over the small back muscles. The back muscles can not release until the lat is treated. As the body compensates, compensates, related triggers also form In the shoulder, chest, outer elbow and hand. Treatment must target both the site of your back pain plus the mechanical reason for your pain. Inactivating the lat trigger point and the related triggers triggers Is the key. We use the Electro Acuscope Pain and Stress Management Systems, Once the knot in the lat Is released, specific exercises must be done to prevent the problem from coming back. Back stopping the effort was the goalie tandem of Kevin Kirkwood and Gordon Tapp. Strong defensive work was provided provided by Stephen Mills. The coaching staff includes head coach Ralph Cryderman, Rick Savoie, Gary O'Connell, and Jim Potter. The manager of the team is Barb Potter. With champagne dripping from her curly red hair, Terry MacDonald-Cadicux did the hat dance on the podium for her sponsors, GM Goodwrcnch Service Plus and Pontiac, as her team finished finished third in the three and a half hour race for the Motorola Cup this past weekend. weekend. Mt. Tremblant has always been a good race track for MacDonald-Cadieux. The last three times she has raced there she finished on the podium. podium. This is a history making track for her. She was the first female to get to the podium and become the highest ranking ranking female in the ASN CANADA FIA books from her finishes at Tremblant. 'The funny thing is, I really really don't even like this track. You don't have time to breathe, look at gauges or talk to the crew chief. I have seen some pretty nasty accidents here and therefore totally respect this track. You just hold on and try to be as smooth as possible," added Terry. Co-driver Marty Miller qualified the GM Goodwrcnch Service Plus/Snap-on Tools Pontiac third on the grid. During the team meeting, Crew Chief, Ed O'Brien did the strategy based on two stops under green. Miller would start. MacDonald-Cadicux would run the second section, then the crew would put on new brakes and tires and Miller would sprint to the finish. Mt. Tremblant has not been resurfaced since 1963. The track is extremely abrasive abrasive and eats tires. If you arc not a smooth driver, you will slide the car because there is no traction. This is one thing TMC Racing has going for it. Both Marty and Terry are smooth drivers. Miller took the GM Goodwrcnch Service Plus Snap-on Tools Pontiac to second second and that is where the team stayed for most of the race. During the first stop under green they dropped back a few spots, but MacDonald-Cadieux was not long getting the Pontiac back to second place. The final stop was quick and perfect. With twenty minutes to go, John Hienricy took second, second, putting TMC racing in third, and that is where they would stay to collect the checkered flag. On the podium podium the champagne was flying in Terry's direction as she missed the opportunity to grab a bottle. Due to the disqualification of the first place finisher, Powell Motorsports during the last Watkins Glen Race, TMC Racing moved to a third place finish there also. Last race of the Motorola Cup series is in Homestead FL, October 16-18. Under-17 Rep Soccer Team Breaks Up The 1998 U-17 C.S.L. Premier Rep. Soccer team has a record dating back several years.
