The Canadian Statesman. Bowmanvillc, November 4, 1998 Section Two Newcastle Novices Double Millbrook On Thursday, October 22, Newcastle played host to Millbrook. Newcastle came out strong resulting in a final score of 8-4. Thanks in large part to an outstanding outstanding effort by the defense squad of Tara Watchorn and Bobby Orr, and the other line of Cameron Pcloso and Matthew Tims. The following following players received points: Carmen Shah with two goals and three assists, Andrew O'Leary with two goals and one assist, Nicholas Araujo with two goals and one assist, Kelly Palmatcer with one goal and one assist, Matthew Tims with one goal, and Colin Kelly, Cameron Pcloso and Tara Watchorn with one assist each. On Saturday, October 24, Newcastle hosted their tournament, attracting teams from as far away as Innisfil and Cobourg. An outstanding team effort resulted in Newcastle making making it to the finals in the 'A' division. On Sunday the team travelled to Fcnclon Falls. Just when you thought they couldn't possibly have any juice left after such a demanding last couple of days, they pulled from all their reserves and defeated Fcnclon by a score of 4-3. Laing, McHardy and Rohr Edged by Barrie The Laing, McHardy and Rohr Midget Toros made the trek to Barrie on Sunday, October 18, for a league encounter with their northern opponents. The Toros' lack of enthusiasm enthusiasm and energy resulted in a 2-0 deficit by the end of the first period. Barrie took, advantage of the Toros' lack lustre play again in the second and built a 4-0 lead. The Toros turned things around in the third and scored three unanswered unanswered goals to make the score 4-3 and came very close to. tying the game on a couple of occasions. Barrie added a fifth goal late in the period and the Toros couldn't find the mark as they came up short. Final score was Barrie 5, Toros 3. The Toros got goals from Darren Kok, Mike Harper and Chris Laton. The helpers went to Ryan McNight with two, Chris Laton and Tom Jennings. The next night the Toros played their first game on the new ice pad at the Garnet B. Rickard Complex, as they hosted the Pickering squad. This game turned out to be a very chippy affair with 25 penalties assessed by the officials, including five game misconducts. Pickering took an early 1-0 lead but the Toros answered back on a power play goal by Chris Laton from Nick Smith, only to have Pickering retake the lead before the end of the period. The second period was scoreless despite power play chances by both teams. The third period period was penalty filled as 16 of the game's 25 penalties were handed out. The Toros managed to tic the score at 2-2 midway through the final period on a goal by Tom Jennings assisted by Ian Sinclair. Neither team could find the mark the remainder of the game as they were loo concerned about filling the penalty box instead of the net. As a result both teams settled for the single point as the game ended in a 2-2 tic. CNC Machining Sweep Weekend The CNC Machining Major Pcewec 'AA' Toros swept the weekend! They beat Barrie 2-1 and Newmarket 5-1. The goalies, Sloanc and Vandcbclt, were superb. Vandcbcll managed to pick up an assist against the Newmarket team. Scoring for the Toros were Colin Baker, Mike Daly, Malt Beech, Todd Evans, Greg Tamblyn and Garrett Nemisz. Assists went to Evans, Ncmisz, Baker, Stadlcr and Brown. The entire team put in a good performance. The defence was strong and the forwards skated hard and pressed the opposition. Ro/s Enterprise Even Record The Roy's Enterprise Minor Novice 'A' Toros evened their regular season record at three wins and three losses on the strength of back-to-back shutout victories. In Uxbridge, goals by Josh Sullivan, Brett Chapman, Jeff Fcldcamp, Andrew Moore, and Erie Devcra helped the Toros to a 5-0 victory. Picking up assists were Michael Albertini, Trevor Dwyer (2), Chad Usher, Brett Chapman, Mark Vandcrmccr. ' Sandwiched in between the two league games, the boys played an exhibition till versus the Oshawa LNHL Red Wings. A five goal outburst in the third period made the final score 7-1 in favour of the Toros. Sporting a two win and three loss record after their victory victory in Uxbridge, the Roy's Enterprise Toros played host to the Whitby Wildcats. Thc.Toros were looking to avenge an earlier 6-4 loss at the hands of the Wildcats. A pair of goals each by Tyler Neil, Andrew Moore, and Brett Chapman lifted the Toros to a convincing 8-0 victory. Scoring singles were Eric Devcra and Josh Sullivan. Collecting assists were Brett Chapman (3), Danny Arnolt, Michael Albertini, Andrew Moore, Tyler Neil, William Minnema. Full marks go to defencemen Trevor Dwyer, Chad Usher, Mark Vandermeer, Kyle Zavitz, Justin Bowles, and Danny Arnott for taking care of business in their own end. The Toros continue to receive brilliant.goaltcnding from the tandem of Nathan Flint and Peter Hamilton. With the latest two shutouts under their bells, they lowered their regular season goals against average to a sparkling 1.67. Gens Tie 4-4 The Oshawa Generals let a two goal lead slip away in the third period on Sunday night and had to settle for a 4-4 tie against Kingston in an OHL league game played at the Civic Auditorium. Jim Baxter, Brent Gauvrcau, John Kozoriz, and Drew Bucktooth scored for the Generals, who led 4- 2 after the second period. Gauvrcau and Bucktooth .scored power play markers. In addition to his goal, Baxter collected a couple of assists, and was named the game's first star. Their next home game will be on Friday, November 6, when they host Belleville at 7:30 p.m. On Sunday, November 8, they will entertain entertain Windsor at 6:30 p.m.
