Dubois, who is widely regarded as one of Canada's premier soloists, will present a program entitled "Vienna, Broadway and Song." He will be accompanied by Gloria Saarinen, pianist. His repertoire ranges from British folk songs, to hits from the broadway stage such as "Music of the Night," from the Phantom of the Opera and "Maria," from West Side Story. Selections from some of the world's most beloved operas arc also part of the Mark Dubois repertoire. A program with the name Vienna in the title is likely to also include "Vienna, City of My Dreams" and selections from The Merry Widow. Art Project Sows Seeds of Peace Local Lions Clubs are helping Clarington students students sow the "seeds of peace." The Lions Clubs in Courtice, Bowmanville and Newcastle have joined forces to organize local participation in the Lions International Peace Poster Contest. A total of nine schools (three in each of Bowmanvillc, Newcastle and Courtice) are participating. participating. Grades six to eight students are eligible to enter the competition. Bradd Anderson, Chairman of the Lions Club's pARTners Committee, says students who win at the local level will go on to compete at Library Highlights Thank You Mrs. Ball! district competitions. Eventually, winning posters from around the world will be judged, with the grand prize winner receiving $2,500 in cash at the United Nations next year. Anderson added that the program is receiving assistance through the Visual Arts Centre. For this project, two visiting Canada-World Youth exchange students (Adam Cryderman, of Newfoundland and Joulia Choulanova, of Russia) have assisted the young artists in each of the partic ipating schools. The exchange students have spent about two hours with each class. As well as working on the posters, they have shared ideas on the nature of peace and discussed how one person can make a difference.
