Grafton drew first blood scoring the only goal of the first. Newcastle charged back in the second with Craig Kelly scoring on a nice set-up from Gordon Vale. Northcult Elliott pulled ahead at the beginning of the third with Jordon Bowen converting a pretty set-up from Joel Tate and Craig Kelly. Seconds later, Grafton scored the final goal of the game to even the score. The 2-2 final was indicative indicative of the tightly matched play in this game. The following day Northcult Elliott Funeral Home played host to a strong squad from Bewdlcy. The first goal of the game was scored in the second when Jordan Bowen drove home a Joel Title pass. With less than a minute remaining in the second, Bewdlcy evened the score. Bewdlcy then scored two quick goals at the beginning of the third to pull ahead by two. Despite a valiant effort, Northcult Elliott was only able to foil the Bewdlcy goaltendcr once more, when Melissa Jones fed a pass to Craig Kelly who made no mistake. With strong efforts by the entire team, the 3-2 loss will provide the groundwork for many more victories in the season. On November 13, the Funeral Home sponsored Atoms played host to Colbornc. Melissa Jones put Newcastle on the board early in the first when she drove home a Joel Tate feed. Gordon Vale then scored to put Newcastle up by two. Jordan Bowen scored the final goal of the first on a great pass from Melissa Jones. Tyler Watchorn scored Newcastle's fourth on a super set-up from Camden Matthews and Kevin Ferguson. Not content with their four goal effort, Craig Kelly popped an unassisted marker at the beginning of the third. Jessica Holmes then fed one to Jordan Bowen, who nailed Newcastle's sixth. Gordon Vale scored Newcastle's final goal of the game when he converted a great pass from Ryan Bandstra. Paul Shkordoff earned full marks in goal to register his first shut-out of the year. Co Steel Lasco Records First Win On Friday, November 13, the Co Steel Lasco Pccwcc Girls' hockey team put a hex on their rivals, the CAA squad to record their first win of the season by a 4-3 score. The girls of steel ironed out the win to even this battle of Clarington series at one game each. Looking to avenge an earlier loss the Co Steel Lasco squad came out flying, flying, looking to get an early lead. After numerous chances and plenty of action the girls of steel jumped out to a 1-0 lead with Ashleigh Parks scoring her first of the year with a wicked wrist shot, the CAA girls fought for the equalizer and were rewarded soon after to tie the score. This woke the Co Steel Lasco squad up and they answered back with two goals of their own. Whitney Foskett shot the first one past an unsuspecting unsuspecting goalie with Erin Ilaass following that with a howitzer howitzer of her own to open up a 3-1 lead. The girls got a little little too comfortable with an unfamiliar lead and let CAA back in the game with two goals to tie it at 3-3. Coach Doug McCumbcr pulled out all the tricks lie knew because these determined girls wouldn't be happy with a tie. Danielle McCumbcr made countless saves to keep her team in the game and give them a chance to win. Late in the game, Whitney scored her second of the game and the winner on a hard blast to the comer. The Co Steel Lasco igirls had secured their first j victory of _ the seasonf Kids Love Hockey Back on Track After a slow start to the season which saw the Kids Love Hockey Novices fall to a record of three losses and one tie, the team has made a radical radical turn around over the last two weeks. Last Saturday afternoon afternoon in Bowmanville, the team faced a very aggressive aggressive Union Oil team that was also without a win so far this season. The first two periods were end-to- end, but strong goallending goallending at both ends, including Dakota Stewart for Kids Love Hockey, kept the game scoreless going into the third. Shortly after the beginning of the third period, defenceman Matt Gore took the puck from behind his own net and made a beautiful end-to- end rush to give Kids Love Hockey a one goal lead. Later in the same period Allysha Chapman found the corner of the net assisted by Josh Wickcns and Emily Vanderduim to cement the game for Kids Love Hockey. The entire team is to be commended for a hard earned win. The following Saturday the Kids faced one of the tougher teams in the league in Exit Shirmax Really. Jumping on their opponents from the opening opening face off, the Kids Love Hockey squad had a 2-0 lead on goals by Matt Gore before the game was three minutes old. Once again, the team was backed by strong defence and goaltending of Chris Seiler who was beaten only once on a deflected shot to break his shutout. Matt Gore remained on fire and potted four more goals to give Kids Love Hockey a 6-1 vietory and start them on their climb up the standings. Assists in the game went to Tyler Hardwick with three, and Gordie Turner with two, while single assists were recorded by Brad Webb, Tyler Stauffer, Paul Cunningham, Michael Httleio, Koly Stewart and Kyle Park. Also having strong games were JelT Sal way and Brendan Harrison. Congratulations girls! Well done! On Wednesday, November 25, Co Steel Lasco Pecwce girls' team welcomed the Hard Co team from Oshawa into their den. The Clarington squad was anxious to prove they were a much better team than the 8- 0 score that they lost to Hard Co last time. The girls of steel came out flying and had numerous chances early on only to be foiled by the superb visiting goalie. The Hard Co team scored three goals to go ahead but Clarington was outplaying the visitors. Erin I-Iaass scored a beautiful unassisted unassisted goal to make it a close game but that was as close as they got leaving them on the short end of the 3-1 score. Danielle McCumbcr was spectacular in net to keep her team in the game. Having good games were Danielle Jordan, Katie Knapp, Emily Broome, Alex ITeideman, Kimberly Van Leyden and Amanda Leonard.
