HOME SWEET HOME - The Bowmanville Nursery School moved back to its Beech Avenue home this month, after several months at an alternate location while renovations to the former Lions Centre were taking place. The Nursery School is located on the upper floor of the new Clarington Older Adults' Centre. Older Adults and Nursery School Share Bowmanville Building by Jennifer Somerscales Bowmanville High School Co-op Student The Bowmanville Nursery School has finally moved back to its original home. The school had been running for over fifty years in the building known as the Lions Centre, but in February of last year, the school was forced to move to a temporary location until the renovations were completed at the former former Lions Centre. Now, the nursery school has been up and running since November in the upstairs area of the new Beech Centre, sharing the building with the seniors, who have a centre down below. Christine Goad, a teacher at the school for over 26 years, expressed her delight over the changes. "There was a real joint effort to produce this area for the kids. The Lions Club helped with all the decorating and the town helped with painting the walls and sanding down the floors." Being situated in the same building as the older adults, there comes the chance to bring the two groups together. together. Goad hopes her classes will be aille to perform their songs for the seniors and she is looking forward to sharing their talent. "I am delighted to be back. We feel it's a real advantage to share the building with the seniors, since we can each benefit from the interaction." The Nursery School holds classes in both the morning and afternoon, each consisting of 24 children. Four people are on staff at the moment, including one involved with the care of kids with special needs. Learning is the main goal of the school and many things are taught through interaction. Free play begins the first hour of school, where the development of motor skills is extremely encouraged. The children also learn through singing, reading and conversation. The idea behind the set up of the activities is that the kids learn while playing and having fun. Field trips are also included each month to places like the apple orchard, sheep farm and the pumpkin patch. The Bowmanville Nursery School takes children from ages two and a half to four or five, but the waiting list to register is a long one. y Christmas Pageant December 20th Enniskillen News by Betty Wright On Sunday, December 13th White Gift Sunday will be observed.
