Pace 4 The Claringlon/Courlicc Independent, Bowmanvillc, Saturday. December 26, 1998 Al Clark Trophies Novice Selects Record Two Wins The Clarington Novice Selects sponsored by Alan Clark Trophies Ltd. upped their record to 5 wins and 2 losses with a pair of victories victories in league play. The Alan Clark gang first locked horns with a vastly improved Markham squad. Only 30 seconds into the game, Allysha Chapman one timed a beautiful pass from Dean Laflammc for the game's first goal. It appeared that the "rout" was on but Markham was determined to avoid a repeat of their last meeting when they were whitewashed by a 9- 0 count. They fought back and tied the game at one late in the first period. Clarington pulled ahead early in the middle frame as Brandon Coutu hooked up with Jeff Walsh and . Malt McRae. Again, Markham responded responded with a goal of their own to even the score at 2-2. Before the period was over, the line of Jeff Walsh, Joey Janvcaux and Malt Wrighi clicked lor a pair less than 60 seconds apart, giving Clarington a 2 goal cushion. First it was Wright finding the back of the net, on a set-up from Walsh. Then it was Walsh converting on a 3-way passing play with Wright and Janvcaux for the Selects 4th of the game. The final period belonged to the visiting Markham club as they fired an early goal to draw within one. They continued continued to pressure Clarington and only the steller play of goaltcndcr. Malt Coe, kept. them from scoring the equalizer, preserving the 4-3 final. The Alan Clark Selects next played hosts to their counterparts from Bradford. Jeff Walsh got things off to a flying start as he opened up the scoring scoring before the game was a minute old as he teamed up with Nick Lombardo. From that point on, Clarington's high octane offence kicked into overdrive, overdrive, scoring often and quickly; tallying 4 in the first, 3 in the second and 4 more in the third cn route to a 11-2 decision. Leading the offensive outburst outburst was Joey Janvcaux with 4 goals and 1 assist and lincmate Malt Wrighi with a goal and 4 helpers. Also picking up points in the victory were Aaron Pierce (2g, la) Walsh (lg, la), Lombardo (2a), Kyle Smith (lg, la), Mark Wroblcwski (lg), Darren Ay re ( 1 g) and Matt Sankey (la). Blessed is he who in the prime of his youth and the heyday of his life will arise to serve the Cause of the Lord of the beginning and of the end, and adorn his heart with His love. The Manifestation of such a grace is greater than the creation of the heavens and of the earth. Blessed are the steadfast and well is it with those who are firm. Michael Brabcndcr, called up because of injuries, started the scoring early in the second with a wraparound. Panthers came back aggressively with three unanswered markers, up 3-1 in the second. A check from behind left Zachary Vine out of the game, removed by stretcher late in the second. (Zach suffered bruising and returned to league play two games later). The game resumed and Panthers scored another. Toros regrouped with Andy Chamberlain blasting one in the bottom corner unassisted and Jesse Bradburn firing in Brooks Robinson's rebound to narrow the lead on a powerplay. Toros pulled their goalie last minute of play and the Panthers fired into the open net for a 5-3 win. Toros travelled to Pori Perry for their next game against the Predators. Our goaltcndcr kept the the Toros in the game with excellent saves between the pipes, including a breakaway. However the Toros were not able to get on the board and lost this one 2-0. Whitby Widcats were first on the board against the Toros, taking advantage of a power play. Ryan Garniss dinged the post and Jesse Bradburn caught the rebound to tie the game on a power play. Wildcats were up 3-1 when Jason Hicks passed to Paul Reid at the point who fired one between the legs of the Wildcats- nctminder. With 10 seconds left in the game, Jesse Bradburn tipped in Morrson's pass from the point to tie the game for a 3-3 final.
