Page 6 The Clarington/Courliee Independent, Bowmanville. Saturday. December 26. 1998 Sports Exchange Toros Hang On for Championship On December 4 the Clarington Major Atom AA Sports Exchange Toros travelled to Fort Erie to compete in the Kinsmen Tournament. The Toros' first opponent opponent was Peterborough. This was a particularly hard-fought game. Jordan Gross received a cut while dishing out a thunderous body cheek in the first period that required stitches stitches after the game. The action was close all game, with Jesse Francis needing to make a glove save on a clear cut breakaway with just 39 seconds left to preserve preserve a 2-2 lie. Next up for the Toros was the strong Milton team. It took the Toros until the mid-point of the game to really find their tegs. Luckily for the boys Chris Cook had come to play as he turned back several several excellent scoring chances to keep Milton off the score sheet. A breakaway breakaway goal for Jordan Gross in second period got the momentum finally going. Jimmy Provcnzano scored two in the third, while some great forechecking by Mike Murphy and Jeff Hatfield resulted in a Jesse Gilbert goal to seal a 4-0 shutout for Chris Cook. Although the Toros had not lost yet, they quickly found themselves needing a victory against the host Fort Erie club to advance to the semi-finals. The going was certainly tough in this game and the Toros relied heavily once again on their goallending. It wasn't until the midpoint of the third period that the Toros finally found the score sheet. Jordan Gross was awarded a penalty shot when a Fort Eric defence- Quality Body Work Quality Painting FREE ESTIMATES ON BOTH INSURANCE AND NON-INSURANCE WORK Open 5 Days a Week Monday through Friday 166 King St. East man covered up the puck in the crease and lie made the most of this chance, scoring scoring on an excellent deke. The Toros met the rough and very physical Hamilton club and needed a victory to gel to the tournament tournament championships. The boys got off their quickest start of the year and before the 2:00 minute mark they were leading 2- 0. The story of this game was Hamilton's inability to score on Christ Cook. The Toros earned a much deserved trip to the finals as the likes of Henderson and fellow Toros Eric Kemp and Ian CMHA December Calendar Winners The following arc the Clarington Minor Hockey Association calendar winners for the month of December. All heart and some stellar uoaltcnding by Jesse Francis saw the Toros fighting for their lives against a Peterborough team looking to take advantage of our missing players. A tired-out Toro team refused to let the Peterborough squad tie up the score after gaining a second period lead on Orthotics for Neck Pain Question: Telma, I have trouble understanding how you could possibly recommend recommend orthotics for neck pain. What do my feet have to do with my neck? This is an excellent question. People have little trouble understanding how orthotics can help with feet problems, knee problems or back problems. It is a bit more of a stretch to understand understand how an orthotic can help with a neck problem. A patient's body in some ways is like a house. If you have a window that is warped on the second storey storey the first thing you do is replace that window. In the patient's case, the first thing often done is to treat the neck. If the pain only gets somewhat better with the treatment or in a case of the house if the warped window comes back, then you need to take a further look to see if there is a foundation problem. Maybe a crack in the foundation is causing the walls to lean and therefore producing a warped window. window. It is the same thing in a patient's case. A lot of people have come to mo after getting their neck treated elsewhere elsewhere and their neck pain has not resolved. In a computerized computerized gait analysis their gait typically shows minimal heel strike. The heel strike being the first of tliroo phases of a normal gait. Patients with neck pain who can be helped by orth- otics have very little imprint of this phase. We call it decreased rear foot loading. loading. In other words, when you look at their scan they show very little weight bearing on the heel strike phase of gait and excessive excessive weight bearing in the push-off part of the gait. The question to ask is what this has to do with one's neck. A person who tends to push-off with their toes and has a poor heel strike tends to walk more on their toes. These people will have a forward head posture and/or a forward tilting spine. The gait is reflecting that change in their feet. If you have neck pain, especially longstanding pain, orthotics may be a consideration for you. I would recommend that you come in and get a free computerized gait analysis. We offer a thirty day money back guarantee with our orthotics so there is no risk. We also provide a two year customization warranty which means at anytime over the next two years, if your orthotics need any adjustments they will bo done free of charge. A more disciplined style with few unwarranted penalties allowed the boys to win this championship. The Toros learned that some discipline and all out effort can certainly make up for a lot. The boys gave their fans some heart stopping action late in the game as the Peterborough attack grew more desperate. A point blank glove save with under 30 seconds left to play had the kids and coaching staff breathing a huge sigh of relief as the Toros hung on to win 3-2.
