CORPORATION OF THE MUNICIPALITY OF CLARINGTON PUBLIC NOTICE The Council of the Municipality of Clarington has recently passed a resolution directing staff to establish a contract for the hiring of a contractor to address the issue of the Port Granby low-level radioactive waste storage. The contractor would carry out a study examining options, at a conceptual level, for the development of a long-term low-level radioactive waste management facility within the municipality. The study would address such issues as facility siting and design, waste volumes and types, and potential land uses. Council has also decided that a local advisory committee is to be established to provide direction to the contractor and assist the contractor in the performance of the task by providing public input on the options under review. The results of the study would be submitted by the advisory committee to Council for review and decisions on the next steps. The duration of the project is estimated to be three lo four months, beginning in February 1999. During this period, the committee will meet on a regular basis. If you are interested in serving on this committee, please forward an application to the Municipal Clerk at the address below by January 13, 1999. MUNiur.'iiiY(ii Patti L. The scoring was really spread out. Joey Castellano had two goals while Derek McGrath, Lemieux, McDaniel, Millson and Kelly had singles. singles. In their last game before the Christmas Classic Tournament here in Bowmanville, National Sports defeated Ajax 5-3. McDaniel led the scoring with 2 goals while Bonin, Millson and Kelly had singles. singles. Wood played well in goal. Hopefully the team will get Scan Lcforl back after Christmas from his thumb injury for the stretch drive. The Clarington Novice Selects sponsored by Alan Clark Trophies took their 3 game winning streak into Harman Park lo face the Oshawa "Park League" Selects. The Timberwolves were without a doubt the fastest and by far the most physical leant that Clarington had met thus far in the season. With the referees opting to let a lot of body contact go, the Timberwolves looked to benefit from the distinct size advantage they enjoyed. To their credit, Clarington refused to be intimidated by their opponents opponents style of play, setting up a classic "David vs Goliath" matchup. Oshawa dominated early. Midway through the first, they cashed in on their initial goal of the game. Thirty seconds later, Jeff Walsh tied the game for Clarington as lie banged in a Mark Wroblewski rebound on a play started by Aaron Pierce. A wild first period concluded with four more goals in the last 2 1/2 minutes minutes of play. Each time Oshawa would pull ahead by a goal, Clarington would respond with one of their own. Allysha Chapman flew down the left wing and fired one just inside the far post for Clarington's 2nd goal. Lincmatcs Aaron Pierce and Kyle Smith picked up helpers on the play. Mark Wroblewski capped the first period outburst as he banged one home from in close, assisted by Brandon Coutu and Jeff Walsh. The second period opened up with more of the same as Oshawa pushed ahead 4-3, scoring in the opening minute. The sec-saw battle continued, with no further scoring until Aaron Pierce unleashed one of his patented blistering wrist shots with just over two minutes to go. a Matt Wright pass sending him in all alone. The Novice Selects jumped out to their first lead of the game as Wright combined with Joey Janvcaux for a pair of quick goals to start the final period. Wright's first goal was a beauty as Janvcaux snapped a scc- ing-cyc pass between the defenders, catching Wright in full stride at the bluclinc. With just under nine minutes remaining, the game was far from over. Down by two goals, the Timberwolves turned up the heat and were rewarded for their efforts as they scored the crucial fifth goal to make it a one goal game. They then were immediately immediately awarded a power- play opportunity and launched an all out assault on the Clarington net for the duration of the two minute man-advantage. The Alan Clark Novices successfully killed off the penalty only to face a six- man attack • as Oshawa pulled its goalie. Brandon Coutu was hauled down from behind on a breakaway breakaway on what would have been the game clinching goal into an empty net. Having to play a man short for the final minute of the game, Oshawa was unable to mount another serious offensive threat, leaving Clarington to celebrate a thrilling 6-5 victory.
