Their first opponents were the Toronto Aces. Brock Dcighton and Matt Savoie scored in a 2-2 tic. Adam Shctlcr was named the Toros MVP for the game. On Sunday, December 28, the Toros met the Innisfll Winter Hawks in their second match of the tournament. Jordan Wilson and Adam Hobb set up Clarington's Kyle Brown who opened the scoring in the first minute of play. John DcMille scored from Tyler Castellan and Brock Dcighton to give the Toros a 2-0 lead. After Innisfll tied the game, the Toros regained the lead when Tyler Castellan and John DeMillc set up Brock Deighton. Innisfll scored two unanswered goals in the third period period for a 4-3 victory. Goaltender Steven Trudeau was named Clarington's MVP for the game. Later that day the Toros faced the Oshawa Flames. Matt Savoie and Matt Hobbs set up Adam O'Connell for the opening goal. Titrée minutes later, Matt Savoie scored on a pass from Jordan Wilson for a 2-0 lead. John DcMille set up Tyler Castellan for the final goal in a 3-0 victory. Netmindcrs Kevin Kirkwood and Steven Trudeau each made several key saves to share the shutout. Clarington's MVP was Jordan Wilson. Hoping to advance to the championship championship round, the Toros found themselves themselves in a must-win situation against the Oshawa Canadiens. Tyler Castellan had a pair of goals, with singles to Adam Shctler, Jeff Perron and Adam O'Connell in a 5-3 win. The Clarington MVP was Tyler Castellan. The victory gave Clarington enough points to earn a berth in the 'C' championship against Whitby. In the championship game, Jeff Perron scored from Adam Hobb. In the second period the Toros added three more goals: Brock Dcighton scored from John DcMille; Adam O'Connell scored from Jeff Perron; Brock Deighton scored from John DcMille .and Jeff Perron. In the third period, Jordan Wilson set up Adam Hobb for Clarington's final goal. Goaltenders Steven Trudeau and Kevin Kirkwood combined for the shutout. The Toros became the Parkwood Rotary 'C' Champs. Novice Selects Enter Manvers Tourney Captain George's Beat Clarington in Finals On December 19, the Clarington Novice Selects hosted LNHL Canadians on home ice. It was an even match with end-to- end action, great passing and little scoring chances for a 1-1 lie. Cory Pearson got our only goal. December 20, the team travelled to Manvers for a tournament. The first match was against the Omemec Selects. Omemec scored in the first 30 seconds seconds and never looked back. In the third, we had a two man advantage but were unable to score. Scott Tamblyn scored his second goal of the game to make the final score 8-2 Omemec. The second game was against Bobcaygcon Selects. Scott Tamblyn scored the only goal in the first period with the assist going to Ryan Hornby. In the second period, Bobcaygcon scored all their goals and at the end of two, we were trailing 4- 1. In third period action our second goal was scored on a power play with James Parks working hard in the corner, and on a wrap around attempt, Amber Ellis banged it in. with 1:28 left in the game, Brendan Grigg scored off the face off, making the score 4-3 for Bobcaygcon. We pulled our goalie but came up short. In the "C" Championship game against OPS Selects, there was no scoring until late in the first period when OPS got two quick ones. With 1:52 left in the first, Brendan Grigg scored our first goal. OPS scored a couple more in the second while Brendan Grigg and Christopher Konarowski each got one for the Eagles. No scoring in the third for a final of 4-3 for OPS. Our first game of the New Year was January 2 against Oshawa Selects at Donevan Arena. The first period was a see-saw match with each team scoring one. We look the lead in the second, but not for long. They came back, scored, and then took the lead. The Eagles never gave up and kept working hard for a 5-4 win. Goals scored by Taylor Williamson, Cory Pearson, Scott Tamblyn and a cou ple by Ryan Hornby. Assists went to Scott Tamblyn, Ryan Hornby and Gregory Konarowski. With an hour's rest and new arena, we met the OCHL Selects. We played a good first period, but tired out to a 6-1 loss. Brendan Grigg scored our only goal. Preston the Mover Toros Continue Strong Surge The Clarington Minor Atom Toros, sponsored by Preston the Mover, continued their late season surge by gaining another point from division rival Uxbridge. Starting the new year at home, the Toros did not start with a bang, as they allowed the visitors to build a quick 4-0 lead midway through the second period. The Bulls mounted a comeback, scoring three goals in the final three minutes of the second period. Mike Syer passed to Matthew Parker who banked a shot off the defender's skate into the net climaxing a dramatic come from behind effort to tie the game at 4-4. Matthew Parker also scored the first goal for the Toros to get things started, with assists to Matt Smith and Robbie Campbell. Nathan Murray added a pair of goals to round out the scoring with Brad Farrow contributing two assists, Kurtis Salway with one and Mike Syer also picking up another assist in addition to his helper on the game tying goal. Captain George's Fish V Chips Atoms entered their first tournament of the year on December 29. They met Orono in the first of three games. Mark Reid scored the only goal of the first on a set-up from Emily Bradford and Jordan Bowen. Jordan Bowen increased the lead to two at the end of the second scoring on a solo effort. In the third period, Derrick Knox (2), Jordan Bowen, and Gordon Vale scored, with assists to Camden Matthews, Andy Millson, Derrick Wood, and Mark Reid. Goaltender Keenan Binnic-Cormicr lost his bid for a shutout with less than two minutes left. Final score 6-1. In game two, Captain George's met Newcastle #3. Newcastle jumped out to a two goal lead. Jordan Bowen and Camden Matthews scored to tie the game. Newcastle scored again in the second, and four more in the third to cam a 7-2 victory. Captain George's advanced to the 'C' finals against Clarington. Andy Millson put George's on the board early on a great set-up from Derrick Knox and Derrick Wood. Andy Halminen Homes Toros Win First Tournament The Halminen Homes minor novice 'AA' Toros won their first tournament of the season. We met Pickering in the first game and dominated, winning easily 6-1. Luke Pither led the way with a four goal performance. Also scoring were Brandon Castellan and Brock Murphy with single tallies. Assists were recorded by Allen Dillon with two, and singles to Scott Dwinnel, Louie Martone and Carl Andrews. Game two pitted the Toros against the Belleville Bobcats. Clarington escaped with a Peewee Select Eagles Hold Down Second Spot The Bowmanvillc Peewee Eagle Selects continued continued their strong play following the successful completion of an out of town tournament. The boys' next outing was against the first place Newmarket team. Jesse Millson cracked the goose egg half way through the second with a nice assist from Cory Burns. Newmarket struck back with no lime left in the period. The goal seemed to give the opposition some life. The Eagles maintained maintained composure and had to settle for a 1-1 draw. The next match was a battle for second against the Pickering select club. Pickering came out strong and scored two goals in the first two minutes of play. Zach Thoraval responded by roofing the puck over a sprawling goaltender. Greg Vanlcydcn spotted unguarded Zach to get the assist. Late in the first, Greg found Jesse Millson on the fly who made a nice rush. Defensemen Chris Bcnctcau finished up the play, jamming in the loose puck. The balance of the game saw some solid goal- lending by Bowmanvillc's Pauly Johnson and Brad 'Dasilva. The game was a seesaw battle with Pickering scoring early in the second and the Eagles Justin Wood tying it up in the dying seconds of the period. Assists went to Todd Dcchene and Colin Bourkc. The third period was all Bowmanvillc with goals by Zach Thoraval (3), Josh Kewcll and Todd Dcchene, Jesse Millson (2), Colin Bourkc, John O'Connell (3), Doug Myles and Ryan Collister all picked up assists. Final tally saw Eagles win 8-4. After two demanding games, the team came up fiat against the Oshawa CYO select group. The only offense Bowmanvillc could muster was a late goal by Justin Wood late in the third from Greg Vanlcyden and John O'Connell. The final was a 5-1 drubbing. The next effort was much better against the Port Perry select group, Bowmanvillc dominated play, however Port Perry canned the first and third goals keeping the game close, Goal scorers for the Eagles were Zach Thoraval (3), John O'Connell and Jeremy Farr with his first with a good shot from the point. Ryan Collister (2), Todd Dcchene (2), Greg Vanlcydcn and Colin Bourkc all counted assists. 'flic team was glad to welcome back Brandon Kalijundic and Mike Sinopoli from extended absences. At the end of the first half of the season the team has a very respectable record of 7-2-2 in league action, and holds down second place in the loop. In the second period, Jordan Bowen scored twice, while Mark Reid and Camden Matthews tallied once each. Alex Hcideman, Andy Millson, and Derrick Wood had assists.
