News from Bowmanville High by Lindsay Woodcock Despite the inclement weather on January 5th, that prevented buses from running running and left some students stranded at home for an extra day of vacation, BHS is now back and on track. Presently, Mr. Konopka is busy planning the second annual Battle of the Bands to be held later in the month. Many students are excited and preparing for this event in hopes to beat last year's winners, Deviation. The Battle of the Bands will take place in the auditorium. Students will be charged 25 cents to enjoy the show and a prize of up to $200 will, go to the winning winning participants. Mr. Richardson's fitness classes have been spending some time at Life Styles gym on Baseline Rd. Loni Krummenacher, a fitness student of Mr. Richardson, states: "The high-tech equipment is awesome, and going to the gym is "an excellent way to keep up with any New Year's resolutions resolutions that people have made. I'm glad the school offers this course". The ski team planned a trip to Blue Mountain, but due to a lack of snow this season it has been postponed. Groups such as Grendel which is the school's literary club, have begun meeting and are accepting any short stories, art or poems submitted by students who are interested in being published in this Obituary year's issue. The drama department is putting on a musical called Bye Bye Birdie. The cast is hard at work, attending many practices and rehearsals to prepare for the premiere that will be in the spring. January is obviously a busy month! While some of the grade twelve and OAC students are busy with college college and university applications, applications, the grade nine students students arc preparing for their first exam which will be held at the end of the month before the transition to History/Geography. All students have Evaluation Days from January 26-29. This is not the normal exam (which will be written in June this year) but a more real life experience for two hours and a half of every class. It is evident that, after such a hectic month, all the members members of our school body will be happy to see the PA day arrive on January 30!
