At only 24 years of age, Hodgins has orchestrated a complete turnaround for the Eagles in only his first season as head coach. Last season, the Eagles were a horrendous 15-31-5, including only three road wins. This year, the Eagles have a mark of 24-16-5, with 11 wins on the road. The goals against have been shaved from 285 in 51 games a year ago, to 157 with seven games remaining. Hodgins spent two seasons with the team as an assistant coach, before taking ovcf the head coaching coaching position this season. Prior to that, he was a member of the Bowmanvillc Eagles Jr. C team that advanced to the All-Ontario finals in 1995. "You will never find anyone more dedicated to this hockey club than Curtis Hodgins," praised general manager Mike Laing. Also in line for a league award is goaltcndcr Ryan Penney, who was named the league's MVP. Much of the credit for the low goals against average posted by Bowmanvillc this year is attributed to Penney, who spent the past three seasons in the OHL. Latimer had a pair of goals for the Eagles, with singles to Chris Steele and Jason Wakcly. In four games against teams from the Northern League, the Eagles collected two wins, a loss, and a lie. The idea of having an interlock of games with teams from the Northern League for next year was turned down last week in a vote of the league's general general managers. Travel expenses incurred by teams was cited as one of the major reasons for cancelling the experiment.
