The town council organized a banquet in honor of the successful team, with hockey great Syl Apps as the guest speaker. Pop Can Hockey Part of Canadian Sporting Culture If the Labatl's commercial being shown during coverage of the Olympic Games doesn't bring a smile to your face, then check your citizenship because you certainly can't be a Canadian. The commercial depicts a guy walking along a busy doVvntown street shooting a pop can. But, before you know it, a full- fledged hockey game has broken out right in the middle of the street. It ends when one of the players yells "Streetcar," leaving everyone scrambling to get out of the way. Typically Canadian. The commercial brings back fond memories of tagging along with Dad to the rink, and spending the entire time playing hockey in a small corner of the arena with kids you had never met before. Similar to the Labatl's commercial, anything out of the garbage can would serve as the puck. Anything from a rolled up piece of tape, to a crushed pop cup, to an empty cigarette package. And, if you were one of the lucky ones, you might even find a broken stick that would give you an advantage over the others. Nobody cared what was happening on the ice. Attend any Eagles game on a Sunday night, and the tradition among kids is still alive. Informal games of hockey arc a common sight each week in the north end of the rink. DON'T GET IT -- Watching the Men's Combined skiing the other night raises one question -- How do the skiers know which gate to go around? It all looks too confusing for me. One of the things I did understand about the two- event sport -- which combines the times from slalom and downhill -- is that the average skier can do well at the combined. According to the announcers, if the combined combined skiers were to enter just the slalom or just the downhill event, they wouldn't fare too well. But combine combine the times from the two events, and they arc medal contenders. I can relate to that, because it's similar to the triathlon. Individually, if I were to enter a swim, bike, or running race, I wouldn't finish too well. But combine the three events, and.... Well, maybe that wasn't such a good example. OTHER STUFF -- How would you like to be on the men's or women's U.S. curling team, and know that your own.country won't be showing one minute,of your.event back home? Seems curling doesn't rank highly among the viewers south of the border. On the bright side, if you aren't a fan of curling, when CBC is showing the event, a quick flip to CBS will give you something else to watch...How much influence does Wayne Gretzky have? Fearing that the flight to Nagano was going to be a boring boring one, he made a call to some buddies in the film industry in Los Angeles, and was able to get a video of the movie Titanic to be shown on the flight. For you and I, renting the movie at the video store is out of the question question for a long time...Watching speed skaters leaves one question: How do the racers get a pair of jeans over their thighs? Those things are like tree trunks. What is your experience experience with this? Plantar fasciitis is a painful inflammatory condition involving the plantar fascia of the foot. The plantar fascia is a thick sheet of ligament in the sole of the foot. It goes from the heel and along the arch of the foot to insert onto the metatarsals, which are the toes. Every time we walk, we take weight on the plantar fascia, which transmits the weight from the heel to the forefoot. forefoot. When this tissue becomes inflammed it can be very painful. It hurts with every step. The pain is in the sole of the foot, on or around the bottom of the heel. Typically, the pain is worse in the morning with the first steps of the day and when starting more strenuous activity. If left untreated, it can progress to become a heel spur, which means inflammation and bony growth of the heel itself. There are a number of predisposing factors that can contribute to plantar fasciitis. These include flat, pronated feet, highly arched and rigid feet, overuse of the feet and even poorly fitting shoes. Plantar fasciitis is one condition where orthot- ics can be extremely helpful. Custom made orthotics redistribute the weight in the foot to help arrest the inflammation of the plantar fascia. Physiotherapy is aimed at correcting the biomechanical causes that contributed to plantar plantar fasciitis itself. Plantar fasciitis is a painful inflammatory condition involving the springboard of the foot. The key to managing it, is to stop inflammation as soon as possible. This is very difficult because every step you take can potentially reinflame reinflame the plantar fascia. fascia. An orthotic can be very helpful in management management of this problem and can allow one to treat the underlying causes much more quickly.
