Your wife, Rockie InMemoriam, call 576-9335 IN LOVING MEMORY OF STANLEY JAMES WILLIAM RICKARD FEBRUARY 20,2000 Sian was a very special man who spent his life educating and helping others while wanting very little for himself. He was a very kind, loving and considerate man who always looked for the best in everyone. Bom on a farm cast of Bowmanville in 1911, he thought the greatest development in his lifetime was the installation of electrical power at the farm. He was educated at the University of Toronto where he achieved the Prince of Wales Medal for academic excellence. Stan was one of the most experienced teachers in Ontario, having taught in many different types of schools. He started his career in a one-room public school and ended as Principal of Brock High School for 25 years. During WWII, he taught meteorology to the RCAF in London and then became Science Master at 'The Grove" Lakefield. Next he became principal of Millbrook Continuation School and a year later was invited to be assistant superintendent of the Boys' Training School at Bowmanville. After retirement, he taught a year in Glasgow, Scotland, to help with their teacher shortage. Musically inclined, Sian always had Glee Clubs and Orchestras in his schools. His favourite instrument was the violin and in his last years played with a Port Perry Group. His hobby was photography. lie devoted his expertise to many organizations. He was President of STO, now RTO in 1977-78. They started a newsletter • "Dust Off * which still continues today. He was a tour leader for STO and on the travel committee and led several international tours. Stan was a member of Durham Children's Aid Society for 12 years and was President in 1984. He was also President of Durham Lung Association and Chairman of Scugog Community Care. He enjoyed helping seniors with their income tax. Stan was chairman of Pastoral Relations for 3 ministries at Beaverton United Church and was also on the session for Port Perry United Church. He was a council member for the village of Beaverton, and later a Councillor for Brock before moving to Port Perry in 1979. Stan was president of the new Port Perry Lawn Bowling Club for four years and the membership went from 30 to 100 for the opening of the new site. He was a Lion's Club member for over 50 years and held every position. He was also a member of Beaverton Masonic Lodge. An ardent curler for over 35 years, he finished as a member of the Cannington Seniors Curling Club. As a member of the Port Retry Senior Citizens, he served as V. Pres, for 2 years and President in 1994 for 2 years. During that time they brought in Incorporation, Constitution, regular executive meetings and built the Seniors C.P.C. Room (Communications and Planning Centre). He also arranged for stage drapes. The membership grew to 200 when new activities were started. As an educator, Stan thought his students would remember him for (a) always starting on time and (b) picking up stones at the new Brock High School site. As a volunteer, his efforts have been felt by many. To his family, he will always be remembered, dearly loved and respected. His wife Muriel, his daughter Sandra and sons Brian, Ralph and Ian, and their families sadly miss him very much.
