Most of the sports offered offered by schools are "team related and not for individuals" he says, adding, "golf is a different opportunity for the kids." He was overwhelmed by the initial response to the league by students at the school. At the first meeting to see if there was enough interest to warrant such an undertaking, 76 kids attended attended to register. He had to whittle that down to a more workable number of 17'. 1 - , ; i: ; "I took the maximum number of students I could," says Martel, who has been playing golf for 18 years and is a 2-handi- cap. "It has been amazing. After the first week the kids told me they couldn't wait for the next week," he says of the league that began earlier this month and will run until the end of June. The highlight for the league will be a tournament on Saturday, May 26.
