' A spirited effort resulted in a 4-4 tie with the unbeaten unbeaten Wellington Dukes in an entertaining game at the Garnet B. Rickard Recreation Recreation Complex. While a tie is often frowned upon by teams who would prefer to have an outright win at the game's conclusion, the Eagles Eagles were satisfied with the effort and end result. "We definitely wanted to knock them off," said Eagles' Eagles' forward Jon Ross, who had his most productive productive game of the season, contributing on all four Eagles' Eagles' goals. The 18-year- old, OAC student at Bowmanville Bowmanville High School scored twice and added two assists. "We showed we can play with anyone in the league. It was definitely a big point and to keep close with them was nice." Matt Caruana and Sean Brackin had the other goals for the Eagles, who led 3-2 after the first period and 4- 3 after the second. Wellington's Wellington's C.J. Thompson scored eight minutes into the third period to tie the game. Neither Neither team could score in the five-minute overtime. While every game is im portant, Sunday's was especially especially so because of Wellington's undefeated record. Every team in the East Conference wants to be the one to hand Wellington Wellington its first loss and the Eagles Eagles were no exception. "Just the fact they were undefeated, we wanted to knock them off their perch and the guys were up for it," said coach and general manger Curtis Hodgins. "We played them even for . mos t of the game. It was a good test ftirustawdi. think** we came through. "Some of the goals were preventable because of mis- cues that are inexcusable, but that comes with inexperience inexperience on (defence)." The tie completed a satisfactory satisfactory weekend for the Eagles after posting a 5-2 win in Lindsay Friday night. Garnering three of a possible four points leaves the team with a record of 8- 5-, 1-2. The Eagles will get back at it on Friday night in Syracuse, then host Cobourg Sunday night at 6:30 p.m. THE SCOOP - Matt Caruana had two assists against Wellington with one each to Andrew Beck, Bryan Riddell, Andrew Gronross and Kyle Mar- tiniuk...Wellington outshot Bowmanville 39-25...Only five minor penalties were called by referee Darryl Dawson...Sunday's game was the third in three nights for Wellington, who beat Port Hope Friday and Saturday Saturday night...Bow- manville's Brian Taylor was walking the dressing room hallway after the game with his arm in a sling after blocking a shot while Andrew Beck was taken to hospital for X-rays on his thumb...There were a number of OHL and university scouts taking in the game.
