"We've got to put a firewall around those services we have to have," said the leader of the opposition opposition at a downtown Whitby restaurant recently. "But the provincial government has committed committed so much money to corporate corporate tax cuts, health care and education education have suffered." Visiting a town whose economy economy is tied to the fortunes of corporations corporations like General Motors Canada, Mr. McGuinty called for the cancellation of the Tories' $2.2 billion tax cuts for Ontario's wealthiest corporations. Speaking in Finance Minister Jim Flaherty's own riding, the MPP from Ottawa South also chided the government for tax breaks parents of children attending attending private schools will receive, an initiative brought forward by Mr. Flaherty in last May's budget. "In the wake of Sept. 11, people want substance ... there's nothing to help municipalities prepare for emergencies, and there's no plan to create jobs." Mr. McGuinty called on the Province to create jobs by speeding speeding up $l-billion worth of previously previously announced infrastructure projects. "And then take 10 per cent, that's $ 100-million, and dedicate dedicate that to security measures."
