Pro soccer team staying in Oshaw ; BY BRIAN McNAlR • Staff Writer ; OSIIAWA - The Durham Flames aren't going anywhere and neither arc their owners. ■ Co-owners Carlos De Sousa and brothers Steve and Frank Kralj have re- Inoved the Tor sale' sign they posted jiear the end of the most recent Canadian Canadian Professional Soccer League season. Discouraged by the team's dismal showing down the stretch run and citing citing a need to spend more time with family, the three men said they would sell the team if they received an appro priate offer. They were looking for between between $100,000 and $125,000. But, despite receiving what Dc Sousa calls three "verbal and serious" offers, the trio has decided to stay on board for at least another year. "I didn't like what happened last year," says vice-president Dc Sousa, referring not only to the team's 7-12-3 record but also to the fact coach Danny Stewart quit late in the once-promising campaign. "If I do go out, I want to go out like Ray Bourque, to go out on top." When the Flames take to the pitch for their fourth season, they will do as part of a restructured CPSL, whic is looking to expand into other parts < Canada and will serve as a second d vision to A-Lcaguc teams of the Can; dian United Soccer League. Although still searching for a n general manager, the Flames h; hired Steve Hamill as their fourth h coach in as many years. Hamill signed on for three years. De Sousa says a number of vol leers stepped forward to offer help i the upcoming season, playing a part i the decision to keep the team.
