JANUARY 9,2002 Bowmanville children involved in snowmobile crash COBOURG - Two Bowmanville children were treated at hospital and released released following a snowmobile accident accident that left a third boy with serious head injuries. Cobourg Police say at approximately approximately 6:15 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 4. Matthew Rooplal, 22, of Scarborough, took three children on a snowmobile ride in the Halstead Beach area near Rice Lake in Hamilton Township. Police said none of the kids were wearing helmets. A short distance into the ride, the driver lost control of the snowmobile and the machine slammed into a parked tandem flat-bed trailer and lodged underneath, underneath, says Cobourg Sergeant Roger Thomas. The snowmobile briefly caught lire. The four people were taken to hospital hospital by ambulance. Three-year-old Luke Rooplal, the son of the driver, suffered suffered major head injuries and was airlifted airlifted to the special care unit of Sick Children's Hospital.
