The celebration begins Friday night, June 14, at the Orono Fairgrounds (Centre (Centre Street and Hwy. 35/115) with a military military tattoo featuring the 48th Highlanders Highlanders of Canada, the Royal Regiment of Canada, Drums of the Fort Henry Guard, the Royal Regiment Pioneers, the Toronto Signals Band, the Queen's Own Rifles of Canada Skirmishers and the Cobourg Concert Band. Then, on Saturday, a pancake breakfast, breakfast, hosted by the Orono Firefighters, starts the day at 8:30 a.m. on the Orono library lawn (Church and Centre streets) followed by the Parade of Bands with Angus the elephant leading the way at 10 a.m. A full day of concerts at Sil- vanus Gardens (Main Street and Mill Pond Road) begins al 11:30 a.m. featuring featuring the True North Brass, a Canadian brass quintet recognized internationally. Brass Roots, Upper Canada Saxhorn and Inlrada Brass will also be featured along with Whirlwind, eight premier wind soloists from groups such as the Canadian Opera Company Orchestra, the National Ballet of Canada and the Toronto Symphony Orchestra. WP Cyclone's Magnificent High Wheel Band from Michigan will wheel in with its instruments and bicycles and John Yates will once again perform on his ragtime piano. Slide Rule, a unique 16-piece trombone ensemble and the 7th Toronto Regiment, Royal Canadian Artillery marching band will perform. Big Band Saturday Night opens at 7 p.m. at Silvanus Gardens with Ncu Je- narashun, followed by Juno-award winning winning Spitfire Band. Sunday will feature a multi-faith church service at 10 a.m. on the Orono library lawn featuring the Peterborough Temple Salvation Army Band.
