The annual Motorcycle Motorcycle Award of Excellence (MAX) is considered to be the "Oscar" of the motorcycle motorcycle industry. Awards are given out in more than 45 categories, presented by a committee of members members from Canadian riding riding organizations. Durham won the award in the motorcycletraining motorcycletraining category, recognizing recognizing the quality of the college's motorcycle courses, the calibre of instructors, instructors, emphasis on safety and feedback from students who have taken the program. Catherine Drea, dean of continuous learning at Durham College, feels privileged that the college received an award. "We were very honoured honoured to receive the award for the rider training training category, especially since industry organizations organizations were involved in selecting selecting winners," she said. "Our programs place a lot of emphasis on award safety, and the award recognizes recognizes the high calibre of our instructors, as well as the quality of our courses." The award, which was for 2002, was presented Jan. 4 at the North American American International Motorcycle Motorcycle Supershow; however, however, Durham College was not informed of the award until March. Durham College was one of the first colleges in Ontario to offer a motorcycle-training motorcycle-training program starting in 1988. In 2002, 1,358 students students completed one of the college's three motorcycle motorcycle programs offered at the college's Oshawa campus and also at the Canadian Forces Base in Kingston. Upon successful completion completion of the program, students receive a Canada Safety Council certificate. certificate.
