Telma, if I have an injury, when should I use heat and when ice? A. This is one of most common questions I am asked. Never heat on a fresh injury because heat can increase swelling. This includes neck and back. So for example, if your back aches after working in the garden you ice. Why? Ice reduces swelling, therefore speeding up healing time. For a frcsli injury, always ice. Remember to put a towel between your skin and the ice, and ice maximum 15 minutes. You can ice every hour. Those witli diabetes, circulation problems, or nerve damage should not icc. Also, never ice the armpit, bpek of the knee or over the heart. Used wisely, ice is our best choice. If the injury is not better in three days, sec Your Physiotherapist.
