Phase 1 of this study assessed the short term, intermediate and long term needs for the area. A primary component of the improvement plan Included the westerly extension of Longworth Avenue from Scugog Street to Martin Road, Regional Road No. 57 with a new crossing of Bowmanville Creek. The 1999 Planning Study Report recommended recommended that an environmental assessment assessment study be undertaken for this component component of the proposed improvements. The project involves construction of a four (4) lane arterial roadway to a point west of Bowmanville Creek where as an interim interim measure, the new roadway will be reduced to two (2) lanes until trallic volumes volumes warranted extra capacity. It Is proposed proposed that the existing Jackman Road alignment be utilized for a two lane connection connection to Martin Road. The Municipality has planned tills project under Schedule C of the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment Municipal Road Projects. The Environmental Study Report has been completed and by this Notice is being placed in the public record for review. Subject to comments received as a result of this Notice and the receipt of necessary approvals, the Municipality intends to proceed with construction construction work on this project in 2003.
