PAGE 12 THE CANADIAN STATESMAN, JULY 7,2004 www.durhemregion.com Energy U14 reaches higher level CLARiNGTON - The Darlington Energy Ul4 boys' team of the CESL, sponsored by Hobb Bakker Bcrgin Hill, Rotary Club of Courtice and Preston Preston the Mover, participated in the local rep soccer tournament at the Hydro Fields in Bowmanville. Despite being grouped with teams from higher league divisions, the Energy Energy came to play, defeating Leaside 1-0 thanks to a Taylor Prins goal. The second game saw the Energy take on Clarkson from Mississauga. The opposition was unprepared for the Energy and was fortunate to come away with a 1-1 tie, the sole Energy goal coming from Stephen Jeffers. In the last round robin game, against Brampton, a win by either team would put that team through to the gold medal game, with a tie favouring the Energy. Brampton took the lead in the first half and settled in to defend it for the rest of the game. The Energy had other ideas, though. A series of quick passes resulted in a goal from a rebound for Jesse Gearing. With a round-robin record of one win and two ties, the Energy qualified for the gold medal game where they were matched up against the Darlington Darlington Regional Premier team. Despite playing some of their best Darlington Ull tastes victory for first time CLARINGTON - The Darlington Ull girls' rep team, sponsored by State Farm Insurance Agent, Nathan Arnstowski, and Bobby C's have finally finally registered their first league win against Wexford with a score of 4-1. The momentum of the game changed as midfielders Josée Primeau, Brigitte Hillebrand and Chantal Vallee took control and pinned Wexford in their own zone. This allowed O'Meara to score the second goal on a crisp pass from Amanda Carvajal, who in turn scored the third goal on a great pass out of the corner by Stephanie Forrest. The final goal began with a textbook textbook throw-in by Taylor Small to Forrest, Forrest, who passed it up the field to Morrisette Morrisette for the finish. Outstanding defensive work by ' TBreanne McPaul, Megan Kirkham, Small and Vanderlip held Wexford to only one goal. Keeper Victoria Gilks provided her ustial superior goaltending goaltending to earn a well-deserved win.
