The Toros went through the opening round of the tournament with two wins and a tie, crushing the Markham Waxers 7-1, tying the Aurora Tigers 2-2 and beating beating the Oakville Rangers 4-1. That set up an exciting semifinal semifinal against the Burlington Eagles that went to overtime after the teams were tied 3-3 in regulation regulation time. Jordan Bailey scored the winner on a feed from Nick Weiss just two minutes into the extra session. In the final, the Toros faced the Lasalle Sabres, a team that defeated them in three straight games last year to take the OMHA championship. This time, the outcome was different as the Toros topped Lasalle 4-1 to take the tournament tournament victory. Going into the tournament, the Toros were riding high with two straight wins in exhibition action against Belleville and Stouffville. Goaltenders Shawn Nielsen and Jason Murray split duties during the tournament and only allowed eight goals in the five games. Helping with strong defensive play were Brendan Lindberg, Blake Stone and Conner Conner Sargeant. Playing strong offensively with goals and assists were Rory McDowell (6-3), Connor Hanke (5-2), Taylor Roden (4-2), Jordan Jordan Bailey (3-3), Nick Weiss (2- i2), Blair Beckett (2-2), Brenden Weeks (1-2), Dillon Corcoran (i- 2), David Morrison (0-2), Cameron Cameron Ogden (0-1), Ronnie Potter (0-1) and Zachary Glaspell (0- fWXESS . What is the Difference? Clearance for Uncertified Appliances: >. \ Iim / / III / / The exact heat radiating characteristics of uncertified stoves are unknown because no testing agency ever checked them. These | include Fisher, Lakewood and other stoves made, in the '70s and early '80s. As a result the specifications in , . , wood code B365-01 arc based on the worst case. The assumption is based on the homemade "barrel" type stove as shown below. | As a result the distances have been set at 48" from combustibles and 60 | from the top of the stove. However if shielding is employed the clearances arc reduced. The I shielding I am referring to consists of external metal heat shield attached to the sides & rear & spaced out a least 2 with prov ision for air circulation. This reduces sides, rear comet clearances to 36". As can be seen from the clearances above uncertified appliances have to be out from the wall a considerable distance if combustible. Tlie other factor is your insurance company. Many now will not insure a home with.these older stoves, as they perceive a high risk ol fire occurring. As a result most of these stoves if being used . . , arc in a basement where there is no, combustibles close by ot in a ban / garage situation where large clearances are not an issue. Certified Appliances Virtually all new appliances today that 1 know of are certified. Consumers today want efficient, safe stoves that nre tested and pi oven to bexvoith buying. A testing agency conducts full-lire tests wh.carcvry severe. Grids of temperature sensors monitor the tcnipciatnic ol tlic walls & ceiling at the minimum clearance, the manulactiuci \\isbcs to have the stove approved to. The temperature must not exceed A) L oi the appliance fails the test. : As well shielding oi'•walls & ceilings can be achieved to lurther reduce the clearances of the stove to combustibles. Next Week: We will now look,at a practical application ol these principles in an installation situation. n - -xg- SPECIALS! SPECIALS!
