Çtqff Editor OSHAWA -- For much of his life, Andrew Gibbons had a three-minute drive to play hockey at the Civic Auditorium. Now it would take him nearly 10 hours: No matter, Gibbons says he's happy to be playing for the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds, Greyhounds, who sent Matt Puntureri and a pair of draft picks to the Oshawa Generals to acquire the 18-year-old forward at the OHL trading deadline deadline last week. Gibbons, perhaps inspired by a 'We'll Miss You Andrew' sign visible to him during during the national anthem, made a .successful return to his hometown Andrew Gibbons Sunday, scoring what turned out to be the winning goal in a 4-1 Soo victory over the Generals. . "It was a little different having to get dressed over here on the opposite side of the Generals because I've been with them three years now, but I'm just grateful for the opportunity .I've been given here with the Soo," Gibbons said after the game. "It made it a lot nicer to score against the old team and kind of show them what they're missing." Appropriately, Gibbons was lined up beside Adam Berti for the first shift of the game. The two played minor hockey together in Oshawa and broke into the- OHL with the Generals in 2002, although Gibbons spent most of that season with the Tier 2 Legionaires. Playing on the Greyhounds' third line with Brody Todd and Andrew Desjardins, Gibbons had his ice time curtailed Sunday due to excessive special teams play, but was very effective when he did have his chances. He had a nice shot block in the second period, played his usual north- ' south, no-holds-barred style and scored his goal on a nifty backhand. Considered to be virtually untouchable and a potential future captain after a strong finish to his rookie campaign last season, Gibbons admits he didn't live up to expectations expectations -- both his and others' -- in the early part of this season. But he was still surprised to hear of the trade, even with the mediocre 3-12-15 numbers he'd compiled in 35 games with the Gens. "No doubt I was surprised because I've been with the team for so long, but it's part of the business," he said Sunday. "You never know in the hockey world. I would have loved staying at home. It was great having the support of family and whatnot, but I'm 18-years-old. This will be a learning learning experience for me," NEWMARKET -- The Roy's Enterprise Enterprise Clarington Minor Atom A Toros entered a AA tournament in Newmarket, advancing to the semifinals of the 12- team tournament.
