A proposed calendar shows students would attend school until Friday, Dec. 23, 2005, then have holidays until Jan. 6, 2006, returning to school on Monday, Jan. 9, 2006. Sherry Summer- sides, associate director director of education, told the school board last week that a modified calendar had been chosen for 2005- 2006 over the other option ■ of a Ministry-set calendar, after both options were shown to school councils, teaching and school staff, education centre managers and CUPE. Responses Responses from the groups indicated an overwhelming majority in favour of the modified calendar, Ms. Summersides said; Trustée Nancy Coffin was adamant that it was more important for high school students to have more exam-writing days than 'to decrease the number of available exam days from five to four, making it necessary for some students to write two exams on one day. "What about students who are struggling with the heavy load," Ms. Coffin asked? "It isn't fair to them to expect they should write two exams Nancy Coffin on the same day." One version of the secondary school calendar shows four exam days in semester one, and five exam days in semester two.
