Clarington council is asked by the Minister Responsible for Seniors each year to nominate someone for the award, which goes to someone who, after the age of 65, "enriched the social, cultural, or civic life of the community, without thought of personal or financial gain," said the request for nomination. "Mr. Strike has been a well-respected volunteer in this municipality for many, many years," said Clarington Regional Councillor Jim Schell in making the nomination. "I don't know how old he is, but I'm sure he came right out of the cradle and went to a committee meeting." meeting." Mr. Strike, 76, a lifelong resident of Bowmanville, is a 50-plus-year member of Bowmanville's Rotary Club, and a member of the organization's Hall of Fame. Antiques and folk art show in Clarington this weekend BOWMANVILLE -- The 32nd annual Bowmanville Antiques and Folk Art Show is set for this weekend, and it offers plenty to tempt collectors. iThe show will run Good Friday, Iviarch 25, from 6 to 9 p.m. and Saturday, Saturday, March 26, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. af the Garnet B.
