Bodnar entered into rest on Friday, July 1, in Oshawa. He coached the Generals from 1971- 1976, and in his first season with the club, captured the Matt Leyden Trophy for Ontario Hockey League's Coach of the Year. Bodnar achieved coaching success before and after his time with the Generals. He led the Toronto Marlboros to a Memorial Memorial Cup Championship in 1967-68 and in 1977-78 he was behind the bench of the bronze medal-winning Canadian World Junior team. Prior to his coaching career, Bodnar played 12 years in the National Hockey League with the Toronto Maple Leafs, Chicago Blackhawks and Boston Bruins. He was a proud member of the 1945 and 1947 Maple Leafs Stanley Cup winning teams before moving on to Chicago. In 667 career NHL games, the Fort William William native amassed 142-254-396 numbers. numbers. His best season statistically was his first, when he posted totals of 22-40-62 in 50 games en route to capturing the Calder Memorial Trophy as the league's rookie of the year. The round robin games had the team playing Brampton, Oakville and Milton. The first game against Brampton ended in an 11-1 victory for Clarington as the whole team played well. Scoring was led by Luke Burghardf with six goals, Matthew Cholod with four and a single to Kyle Staal. Assists went to Staal, Luke . Keenan, Justin Bragg and Jake Wynne. The defensive play led by Tyler Farqu- harson, Michael Swaine, Blake Strong, Braedan Munro, Joey Bryant, Carson Lecours, Matthew Valic, Tanner Cook and the goaltending of Steven Walsh and Thomas Jones didn't allow Brampton many scoring chances. The second game was against Oakville in what was a close checking defensive game that ended in a 6-5 victory. Scoring once again was led by Burghardt with four and singles to Strong and Justin Bragg who scored the winning goal wijth just under two minutes to play. j Next up was the home team Milton Mavericks, who came out strong. Three in a row for Jerusalem Lodge COURTICE -- The Jerusalem Lodge No. 31 A.F.&A.M. Bantam boys' baseball baseball team reached the graduation break on a three game win streak, improving its record to 6-3. Travelling to Amberlea Park in Pickering Pickering Village, they played Pickering #2 on a damp evening where the rains held off long enough to play a six inning, hold the fort 10-9 win. Jerusalem Lodge jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the top of the second and tried to coast. Pickering gave the boys in blue all they could handle this evening and proceeded to rebound to a 6-4 lead after three innings. There was just enough game in Jerusalem Lodge's eight players and one call-up from Peewee to prevail as they answered back with six straight runs through the next three innings. Eric Whalley led the offence with three singles and two RBI's, scoring twice and played an overall good game facing Bantam aged boys for the first time. Also scoring twice were Chris Singh and Will Zega. Pickering 2 pushed three runs across in their final at bat, and with the tying and winning runs on base, Jordan Gaskin dug a little deeper and served up a ground ball out and a strike out to end the game. Casey Elliott and Scott Pynn performed well. Jeff Walsh pitched well over the first three innings and helped his cause with a double and a single, scoring once. Returning to Pennfound Park, the friendly confines of home proved to be too much for a spunky crew from Ajax 2. Jerusalem Lodge started off slow, trailing 3-2 through four innings. Strong pitching and good defence from the shorthanded Ajax crew helped the visitors start, bill once Jerusalem Lodge faced the Ajàx bullpen the game turned around. Walsh reached the right field fence on a double double and scored with Chris Singh, Casey Elliott and Matthew Jubb each following him home as the boys in blue found their rhythm.
