Sergei Homiakov, 30, of Aurora, was sentenced to 21 days in jail and fined $8,500 when he pleaded guilty late last month in a Whitby court to poaching. Justice of the Peace Robert Boychyn also suspended the man's fishing licence for five years. Court heard Durham Regional Police found Mr. Homiakov fishing beside Wilmot Creek in Newcastle on the night of Feb. 14.
