durhamregion.com PAGE 2 ♦ THE CANADIAN STATESMAN ♦ JULY 20,2005 Clarington Leading the Way ^ 905-623-3379 MAYOR S CORNER CHANGES AT VERIDIAN I have said this before but it continues to hold true. Clarington is booming and our investment in Veridian Corporation continues to exceed our expectations. Veridian began operation in 1999 as the result of a merger between Clarington Hydro and the utility providers for the Town of Ajax and the City (then Town) of Pickering. In 2000, Veridian purchased Uxbridge Hydro and Port Hope Hydro followed by the purchase of Brock Hydro in 2001.The partnership grew to include Belleville following the merger with their utility provider. On June 28, 2005 Veridian Corporation hosted the Annual Shareholder's Meeting. This is a meeting whereby shareholders, like Clarington, are presented with detailed reports reviewing the financial and operational highlights of the corporation. It was at this meeting that I was appointed Chairman of the Board for Veridian Corporation - replacing John Wiersma who has moved on to pursue other challenges. Regional Councillor Maurice Brenner was appointed to my former position of Vice-Chair. Veridian Corporation distributes distributes electricity to more than 93,000 customers. Recently, the Corporation purchased Gravenhurst Hydro and Scugog Hydro Energy Corporation. In this picture, I am joined by Scugog Township Mayor Marilyn Pearce (representing Scugog Hydro) and Michael Angemeer (President and CEO of Veridian Corporation) to sign the purchase agreement. With w . the approval of the Ontario Energy Board (OEB), Veridian is now providing electrical service to our neighbours in Port Perry and the surrounding community. The future continues to be bright for the Municipality of Clarington, our investments and our residents.
