The work, which connects Bowmanville Bowmanville and Westside marshes, is the result of a $45,000 grant received through a partnership between the Ontario government government and Ducks Unlimited, through the Health Wetlands, Healthy Communities program. , "CLOCA (the Central Lake Ontario Conservation Authority) managed to secure the Westside Marsh, adjacent to Bowmanville Marsh, which they already owned,", said Lynette Mader, of Ducks Unlimited. The two marshes will be connected by a trail system, and there will be a kiosk, viewing platforms, interpretive signage, nest boxes and other features, said Ms, Mader. The project will "allow the public some really good interpretive and viewing opportunities," said Ms. Mader, noting it has received good community and municipal support. The work began in the spring, when CLOCA and the Port Darlington residents residents association got together to plant about 2,000 tree whips, as well as some shrubs and larger trees, said Perry Sisson, of CLOCA. A five-acre wildlife corridor will connect the'two marshes, he said. • Survey work has been completed and CLOCA is preparing to put out the tender for construction of the parking lot and trails, said Mr, Sisson. Interpretive signs, ' which will offer educational information and other facts, are being developed, and the five-panel kiosk, which will sit at the entrance to the trails, near the parking lot, has been built, he said. The bulk of the work will be completed this fall, with an official unveiling expected expected late next spring or early next summer, said Mr. Sisson.
