The local puppet troupe, run through Community Living Durham Region, requires people to help them with its community program, which uses life-sized puppets to educate, children about respect, understanding and differences. Performances are geared to children ages five to 12 and present real issues, such as intel lectual disabilities, divorce, fire safety and spina bifida, in educational educational and entertaining ways. Volunteers who are mature, enjoy children, possess good memory skills, work well as part of a team and have good voices are required. Theatre experience would be great but isn't essential. Volunteers will have to attend a six- to eight-week training program and be prepared to give half a day a week for perfor mances in schools in Durham Region. Evening volunteers are also welcome for presentations to local Brownie and Scout groups. Two orientation sessions are being held for anyone interested - Jan. 18 at 1:30 p.m. at 947 Adelaide Ave. E., Oshawa and Jan. 19 at 7 ,p.m. at the same location. Volunteers Needed For The Oshawa Valley Botanical Gardens Task Force The Task Force is a community based volunteer collaborative formed to build awareness and fundraise for the Oshawa Valley Botanical Gardens. The OVBG will encompass a series of linked display gardens from Gibb Street, along the Oshawa Creek, to the gardens of Parkwood, The R. S. McLaughlin Estate. An interest in or knowledge of horticulture, programming and events, fundraising, marketing or committee work is encouraged. An application form must be completed and is available by calling 905-436-5636 x 2162, or emailing ovbg@oshawa.ca. An interview will be scheduled for suitable applicants. Three Community-at-Large members are required to attend monthly meetings and perform committee work related to the development of the Oshawa Valley Botanical Gardens. These appointments will be a year in duration with the option of a further three year term, beginning in 2007. Deadline for receipt of completed application form is 4:30 p.m Friday, February 3, 2006.
