The young Whitby Dunlops defenceman scored a goal, the winner as it turned out, and helped set up seven - yes, seven -- others in 13-3 thrashing of the Deseronto Bulldogs Saturday at the Iroquois Park Sports Centre.- Yet when it. came time to announce the game's three stars, Gubler took a back seat to Bob McQuat, who scored a hat trick from the blue-line, Joe Van Volsen, who had two goals and three assists, and goalie Joel Whitmarsh, who made 40 saves. No matter, the bottom line was a hugely successful weekend for the Dunnies, who also won 9-4 Friday in Frankford and moved five points up on the Norwood Vipers in the battle for first place in the Eastern Ontario Senior A Hockey League, Whitby now sits at 20-4-0 witli six games remaining, while the Vipers, who lost 5-1 to the suddenly hot Belleville MacFariands Friday, are 17-5-1 with a game in hand. Captain Peter MacKellar had another big weekend, rekindling hopes of winning the league scoring title. He had a goal and four assists Friday and two goals and two assists Saturday to improve his totals to 35-35-70, three points back of Norwood's Chad Birkhof. Ron Baker and Brian Grieve picked up four points each Friday, Friday, including a hat trick by Baker and one goal from Grieve. Brent Grieve, Matt Armstrong, Mike Van Volsen and Darrin Lee also scored for Whitby, while Matt Baiser turned aside 29 of 33 Frankford shots.
