Newcastle squeaked by Manvers 4-3 in the opener after coming back from a 2-0 deficit. Newcastle beat Omemee by a score of 7-2 in the second game, and then defeated Orono 10-3 in the championship game. In goal for Newcastle was Marc Ouellet. Team members are Kyle Armstrong, Alex Atherton (MVP), David Beenen, Chandler Brown, Connor Cruickshank, Tyler Dunk, Nicholas Durst, Tyler Geldart, Matt Gibson, Ryan Hartwell, Caleb James, Michael Smith, Jake Van- haverbeke, Jocelyn Vasseur and Dillon Westenhoefer. Co-operators march to final AJAX -- The Clarington Co- operators Midget AA Toros saw a lot of hockey action over the Christinas break. Participating in the annual Ajax Knights Christmas Tournament, they came out as finalists against the home team, losing by the close score of 3-1 in a game that saw these two teams facing off against each other for the second time in the tournament, and for the fifth time in December. Facing Ajax in the first game resulted in a 2-2 tie. Next came a matchup with Humberview, and the Toros came out on top 4- 1. They also defeated the Toronto Penguins by a score of 5- 2, and that win put the team into the semifinals against the York Toros. In the end, a win of 2-0 for the favourite Toro team gave them a chance to play in the final game. Goal scorers were Andrew Rhynold (6g,3a), Wade Pickell (3g, 1 a), Kurtis Allen (2g,2a), Darcy Mitchell (lg,3a), Rob O'Shea (lg), Luc Beech (lg), David Miller (3a), Brad Nich- oll (2a), David Robins (2a), Brock Murphy (la) and Mark Wroblewski (la). Strong goaltending goaltending was provided by Brad Putnam and Josh Connolly. Currently, the Toros are facing facing off against Whitby in the first round of playoff action.
