In return, Oshawa will be in a position to vie for the flex manufacturing plant that would secure future product allocation for its plants. Should the plant be awarded to Oshawa, pension incentives due to restructuring would increase from $50,000 to $70,000 for each job reduced. In addition, all eligible members with 30 or more years of service who sighed up to retire on or after April 1,2006 will receive thé $70,000 incentive. In a memo circulated at the meeting, the . Shop Committee strongly encouraged members to say yes to the deal. "We believe we have done our utmost to come up with a proposal that we feel is the best we can negotiate. We hope it will satisfy Detroit in selecting us as the location for a Flex Manufacturing Facility, while securing the future of our members for years to come," the memo read. "We only have one shot at negotiating and ratifying this agreement, as other locations in the U.S. are in the bidding process as well as Oshawa." A vote on the deal will take place at the GM assembly plants starting with the third shift on Thursday and running through to Friday. Members who are unable to vote on site are encouraged to vote at the union office. Mr. Buckley said the Shop Committee unanimously unanimously endorses the proposal, but the decision is now in the hands of the membership.
