But, my, the mail is piling up fcj" the Oshawa Generals' GM. Busy scouting many of the top draft prospects at the OHL Cup Showcase Tournament last week, Selwood has done little on the coaching front since firing Randy Ladouceur and Mike Oke lafctweek. He said that resumes were Stirling to come in, but that he wis going to wait to speak to a icouple of candidates who are "sjtill. working" before proceeding proceeding with the hunt. Selwood hopes to make the . coach's job a whole lot easier with another solid draft in May, something he is certainly in the position to do with the second, 22nd and 24th overall picks, the latter courtesy the Erie Otters. the Showcase tournament was buzzing with GMs and scouts last week, most seeming to agree the top two prospects are forward Steven Stamkos and defenceman Michael Del Zotto of the cham- Bakker, Bergin, Hill Photo by Ontario Hockey League Michael Del Zotto, captain of the Markham Waxers, accepts the OHL Cup from commissioner David Branch after his team won 3-2 over the Toronto Red Wings in the championship championship game. Although neither player has committed to the OHL route just yet, Selwood envisions Stamkos going to Sarnia with the first pick and Del Zotto coming to ■ Oshawa. If it does play out that way, he would be absolutely thrilled. "He brings exactly what every team would want," Selwood says of Del Zotto, a 6-foot-1, 195- pounder. "What Johnny (Tavares) does for us up front, he would do for us on the back end.". Selwood says Del Zotto is the complete package, a strong skater with great vision who's calm with the puck, makes the first pass, can shoot and has a nasty streak when he needs it. In other words, he's exactly what the Generals have been lacking and will need if they hope to turn the comer. Del Zotto scored four goals and added three assists in five games at the OHL Cup, winning MVP honours in a 3-2 championship win over the Toronto Red Wings. Stamkos was the leading scorer and tournament MVP with 4-7- 11 numbers.
